    Reports to: Program Manager, STOP Violence Program

    Compensation: $16.00 per hour, plus $1.50 per hour Shift Differential Premium for hours worked between 6pm-6am

    Schedule: Monday-Friday 10:00am-7:00pm

    Status: 100%, Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Union

    Probation: 90 days

    DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:  The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Department of Health Services is one of the nation’s largest and most experienced providers of LGBTQ-specialized primary care and related services, Our mission to help LGBTQ people lead healthier, happier lives is supported by our comprehensive array of client-centered services including primary care, mental health, psychiatry, sexual health, pharmacy, case management, nutrition, clinical research, housing services and a food pantry. The Center is one of a handful of Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation specializing in serving LGBTQ people.

    JOB SUMMARY:  This position requires a strong customer service background with emphasis on team participation. Under direct supervision, the Outreach Specialist will coordinate all aspects of outreach and special events focusing on mental health access for victims of crime and will coordinate and assist in the development of appropriate prevention strategies for the STOP (Support/Treatment & intervention/Outreach & education/Prevention) Violence Program. The Outreach Specialist must have the ability to build rapport with the following target populations: people of color, gay, lesbian, and bisexual men and women, members of the transgender community, people of varying ages, and community partners. This position requires some flexibility with scheduling and the ability to work some evenings and weekends.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1)    Plan and execute outreach efforts throughout the greater Los Angeles/Southern California area;

    2)    Conduct outreach and interface with clients via social networking sites within appropriate safety parameters;

    3)    Conduct outreach throughout Los Angeles County to increase access of LGBT crime victims to mental health resources/services and other pertinent resources;

    4)    Work closely with the SVP Program Supervisor to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the program;

    5)    Work closely with and assist STOP Violence Program staff with all aspects of administrative and outreach related program components;

    6)    Assist in the development of outreach standards and best practices for the STOP Violence Program;

    7)    Assist with survey data analysis and incorporate data analysis in program materials as appropriate;

    8)    Assist with the development of all community surveys; tabulate and analyze results;

    9)    Assist with project materials including regional assessment reports, referral manual, etc.;

    10)    Assist with the development of project reports and reports for funders;

    11)    Assist in the development, production, and revision of all (other) program, educational, and outreach materials including the program’s website;

    12)    Assist in the recruitment of volunteers as needed; 

    13)    Assist with and/or provide project trainings/orientations/meetings both in-house and externally;

    14)    Assist in the marketing of all program and outreach efforts;

    15)    Assist with coordination of referrals for victims in need of emergency housing;

    16)    Track/maintain expenses utilized for victims in need of crisis intervention and/or housing;

    17)    Provide linked referrals to family violence clients for appropriate services; 

    18)    Maintain regular communication with community partners and provide education and information to them as needed;

    19)    Prepare monthly and quarterly reports as required by funder and program supervisors as needed;

    20)    Provide outreach intervention to STOP Violence Program groups and clients as assigned; 

    21)    Provide triage to STOP Violence Program participants and clients;

    22)    Oversee and maintain responsibility for STOP Violence Program warmline;

    23)    Participate in all staff meetings;

    24)    Assist program staff with administrative and clerical duties/responsibilities;

    25)    Other duties as assigned;

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    1)    Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people;

    2)    A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people;

    3)    1-2 years of experience with outreach and/or special events;

    4)    Group facilitation and/or training experience;

    5)    Experience working with the LGBT community;

    6)    Understanding of curriculum implementation and material development; 

    7)    Ability to follow a work plan; 

    8)    Access to reliable transportation and the ability to be insured;

    9)    Availability to work some evenings and weekends; 

    10)    Computer skills and knowledge including word processing, spreadsheets and database operations;

    11)    Demonstrated ability to create visually appealing outreach materials and public presence of the program;

    12)    Demonstrated ability to provide culturally competent services to people living with HIV, victims of crime, and communities of color;

    13)    Bilingual skills, a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred);

    14)    Experience with family violence population a plus (Certification in family/domestic violence and/or LGBTQ crime victims, preferred);

    15)    Understanding and knowledge of general mental health factors impacting victims of crime;

    16)    Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
