    Position: Housing Services Coordinator

    Program: Access Center

    Department: Children, Youth and Family Services

    Reports to: Regional Coordination Supervisor

    Compensation: $58,240 Annually

    Status: 100%, Full-Time, Regular, Exempt

    Probation: 180 days

    DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:  The Youth Center serves youth up to the age of 24 who are currently at-risk of or experiencing homelessness.  The Youth Center offers services in an LGBTQ+ safe and affirming environment and serves as an entry point to assist youth making the transition from homelessness to housing.  Our services include meals, clothing, support groups, a charter high school, GED and college prep program, an employment preparation, training and placement program, case management, counseling, a crisis shelter and a transitional living program (TLP).  Our community-based programs include services for youth at-home, in school or in systems of care.

    JOB SUMMARY:  The Housing Service Coordinator will work with leadership and staff at the Department of Children Family Services (DCFS) and the Department of Probation to increase linkages between systems and connect young people who are experiencing or at-risk of homelessness with resources that can end their housing crisis.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1)    Coordinate with leadership and staff at DCFS and Probation offices within SPA 4 to determine needs and service focus for youth;

    2)    Perform problem-solving short-term housing interventions that seek to assist youth to maintain their current housing or identify an immediate and safe housing alternative within their own network of service providers, family, friends and social supports;

    3)    As a member of the Housing Navigation team, when necessary provide screening, triage, crisis intervention, and access to crisis housing and other housing resources through the Coordinated Entry System;

    4)    Assist participants with collecting documents necessary for services and housing;

    5)    Connect participants to supportive services such as mental health, health, substance abuse, employment and education and attend case conferencing meetings to coordinate services with other providers; 

    6)    Provide housing location services and support when needed to prevent homelessness;

    7)    Provide linkage to mainstream resources, such as Department of Public Social Services, Social Security, and Medi-cal;

    8)    Accurately document services and complete data entry into Homeless Management Information System and the Youth Services database system and prepare monthly reports as required; 

    9)    Work a flexible schedule to be able to connect with youth when they are available. This may include evenings and weekends;

    10)    Participate in staff meeting, planning meetings, other meetings as needed, and in-service trainings;

    11)    Other duties as assigned;

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    1)    Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people;

    2)    A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people;

    3)    B.A. in psychology, sociology or related field or equivalent work experience and training;

    4)    2-3 years of experience providing direct services to high-risk youth including counseling and advocacy;

    5)    Knowledge of Homeless Services system;

    6)    Working knowledge of Trauma Informed Service Model, problem solving, principles of harm reduction, and positive youth development;

    7)    Sensitive to the needs of gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender youth and youth experiencing homelessness;

    8)    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including organizational, detail and interpersonal skills;

    9)    Strong computer skills and knowledge including word processing, spreadsheets, and database operations;

    10)    Bilingual skills, a plus (English/Spanish fluency strongly preferred);

    11)    Access to reliable transportation and the ability to be insured;

    12)    Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
