    Job Description

    Overall Purpose and Objective of Position

    This position will be a technical resource to drive plant operating efficiencies and support plant improvements at an Industrial Agricultural/Food Chemical Facility. This position requires working as a team player needing minimal supervision. This position requires developing an understanding of process design technical fundamentals and LDC Project Management Process, process work process and its interdependencies with other disciplines, demonstrating leadership and delivering expertise to the business.

    Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

    • Develops/Possesses strong technical knowledge, leverages technical know-how, and implements best practice applications by providing technical coaching, consulting, and support for others within the plant team, site, and region.
    • Work with operations to track and improve operational KPIs related to Energy, Inputs, Yield, Unit Performance, etc. as outlined by the site.
    • Works to monitor and analyze process conditions as related to Quality, Efficiency, and Performance individually and in teams to identify root cause and articulate opportunity for improvement and optimization.
    • Analyze process data using statistical analysis for the interpretation and justification of process conditions.
    • Ensures process design deliverables meet the needs of the plant as intended, on time and within budget.
    • Ensures process designs are safe, reasonable, and meets LDC’s standards, SHE requirements, and local codes and standards.
    • Identifies technical challenges and appropriately engages plant management, commercial, regional team members, and technical experts to resolve.
    • Demonstrates leadership skills, interacts with the production team and the business to drive improvement.
    • Coordinates the process engineering activities of the plant and will direct and administer with external contractors/suppliers as required.
    • Participate in Process, Project, Safety, and Design Reviews such as: PRA/PHA/HAZOP, Control narratives, Cause and Effect documents, Electrical Area Classification, and Process Risk Assessments.
    • Coordinate the development of scope of work, heat and material balances, PFDs, P&IDs, process descriptions, equipment list, operations training and procedures.
    • Assists and leads in the development of Asset Improvement opportunities for the benefit of the facility to perform current functions at a more efficient level.
    • Execute project management for Asset Improvement project from development, approval, justification, and deployment.
    • Ensures assigned projects are executed in an agreed upon timeline and budget with management.
    • Helps develop tracking and performance identification methods which demonstrate impact.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Serve as one of the primary interfaces for engineering on technical issues with operations.
    • Problem solving and troubleshooting as requested by the plant, when requested.
    • Participates in feasibility studies for processing, refining, grain, milling and biofuels facilities.
    • Works with the Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) staff to assure regulatory certifications and compliance on capital and process improvements, normal operating practices regarding SHE.
    • Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies, rules, and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to.
    • Ensures employees are provided required training for area assigned, and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work.
    • Ensures area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and safe manner.
    • Ensures unsafe working conditions are remedied as soon as practicable.
    • Follows construction completion criteria and construction requirements with the maintenance manager.
    • Assists in the project start-up with local management.
    • Additional projects and duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

    Basic qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum, Industrial, or Agricultural.

    Experience

    Required qualification: Minimum of 2+ years of relevant process engineering design experience.

    Preferred qualification: Experience and direct involvement in the construction and start-up of plant improvement projects.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

    • Knowledge of applicable government regulations (including state and federal regulations regarding safety, health and environmental management) and personnel policies to ensure compliance and to accomplish the safe and timely completion of capital projects and/or process changes.
    • Familiarity with the basics of plant processing, oils recovery, grain and milling operations or biofuels is desired.
    • Proficiency with applicable computer software packages including AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
    • Knowledgeable with applicable software packages such as Wonderware, RSLogix, and PowerLogic.
    • Exposure to plant operations, maintenance, and safety.
    • Knowledge of design codes and governmental regulations affecting the industry including but not limited to NFPA 36, OSHA and EPA standards and requirements.
    • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and interest with strong problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent organizational and planning capabilities with the ability to handle multiple assignments at the same time.
    • Strong verbal and written communications skill.
    • Ability to work as a team member in a team environment.
    • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail and multiple priorities, primarily conducted in a climate-controlled office environment residing in an Industrial Facility. Travel is required as needed for training purposes and technical conferences as needed. Work in industrial operations areas are necessary with exposure to variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions. Anticipate regular exposure to gases, vapors, dust and odors, and occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high volume of noise during plant visits. Some stair climbing is required. Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies.

    Decision Making/Accountability

    Able to work unsupervised and make critical decisions on project and plant process management that have direct implications to budgets and profitability of an agricultural processing plant. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple levels of management to make recommendations on capital projects and process improvements.
