As a Low Voltage Electrician, you will install, maintain, and troubleshoot low voltage systems in commercial, industrial, and residential settings. You will work with structured cabling, fire alarm systems, CCTV, access control, and other low voltage applications.
The pay for this position ranges between $30 and $40 per hour, based on recent, relevant experience. The schedule is mostly Monday through Friday - First Shift - with some potential flexibility to work later and on weekends depending on the workload. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Install, test, inspect, and maintain low voltage systems including:
Fire alarm systems (NFPA 72 knowledge required)
CCTV and surveillance systems
Access control and security systems
Intercoms and audio/visual systems
Structured cabling (Cat5e/6, fiber optics)
Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documents.
Perform NFPA-compliant fire alarm system installations and upgrades.
Troubleshoot and repair system faults and malfunctions.
Document work performed and ensure compliance with project specifications.
Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and clients to ensure smooth project execution.
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with local and national codes.
Minimum Education and Certification requirements:
High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical school preferred.
NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems (Level I–IV depending on the role) preferred. NICET certification is a requirement following employment (following State guidelines regarding timeline) – company will sponsor the process of meeting this requirement.
2–5+ years of relevant low voltage electrical experience.
Strong understanding of NEC and NFPA codes.
OSHA 10/30 certification a plus.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
Minimum Experience Requirements:
Experience with Fire Alarm systems.
Knowledge of, or ability to use various software systems as needed for project management.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently and manage project timelines.
Computer Skills: PC proficiency is required, with experience in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook as well as various software applications notable to the construction industry.
Reasoning Ability: Requires the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Can interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Mathematical Skills: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Language Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Requires mastery of English language skills to read, analyze, and interpret information, policies and procedures, blueprints, and/or governmental regulations. Able to write reports and business correspondence.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the Employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and the use of both hands simultaneously. The Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of weight. Specific vision abilities this job requires include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Comfortable with climbing ladders and working in different environments.
