    Job Title: Estimator

    Location: Columbia, MD

    Department: Project Development

    Summary:

    We are seeking a talented Estimator to join our team, specializing in the estimation and design of Life Safety Systems. This role involves interpreting detailed plans and specifications to accurately calculate costs, time, and materials required for project completion.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Estimate Costs: Price labor and materials for fire, security, CCTV, and card access systems based on customer requirements, specifications, drawings, and building codes.
    • System Design: Perform take-offs from drawings to determine the number and types of devices needed, incorporate them into a system, and prepare proposals.
    • Documentation: Maintain and archive proposals and bids for future reference.
    • Software Management: Keep computer programs updated with current pricing and new products.
    • Site Surveys: Attend site surveys with the sales team to determine job requirements.
    • Material Requisition: Complete material requisition forms.
    • Technical Support: Assist the sales department with technical and installation issues.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of fire alarm, security, card access, and CCTV systems, as well as local and national electrical and fire codes.
    • Analytical Skills: Ability to read and understand contract drawings and specifications.
    • Electrical/Electronic Background: General knowledge of electrical and electronic systems.
    • Installation Practices: Familiarity with installation practices and construction procedures.
    • Mobility: Ability to perform site surveys and job site inspections.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Positive and respectful attitude to maintain good working relationships with management, staff, vendors, and customers.

    Education and Experience:

    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented with 3 years of electric/electronic training.
    • Experience: 2-5 years of experience in estimating Life Safety Systems preferred. Previous experience in construction accounting is a plus but not required. Installation and prior construction experience are advantageous.
    • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Access, and other relevant software.
