    Position Description:

Our Lower School teachers will be responsible for teaching a class of 12-16 students. Our teachers are excited to prepare and deliver engaging learning experiences aligned with the WCS scope and sequence that spark curiosity in our students.

Our teachers place students at the center of all teaching and learning to ensure the best educational experience for each student. They hold high expectations for academic growth, character, and citizenship, while also leading with a high nurture approach that ensures every child feels known, supported, and cared for. They are willing to support WCS beyond the classroom with their time and talents to expand the student experience. Their curiosity for learning drives a commitment to professional growth, and they actively participate in school-led professional development activities (including faculty meetings). Collegiate educators share a commitment to doing whatever tasks are necessary to enhance the student experience.

Our teachers come from diverse backgrounds but share a commitment to delivering high-quality instruction to students. Our Lower School teacher will have a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Three years of classroom experience is preferred; advanced education or relevant professional experience may substitute for classroom experience.

At WCS, we value individual differences and foster opportunities for conversation, acceptance, and celebration of diverse cultures, belief systems, and backgrounds. Our teachers provide a supportive, collaborative learning environment for our students, take a forward-thinking approach to education, and enjoy challenging educational norms and exploring new teaching methods.

Collegiate Educators share the following attributes:

An excitement for creating a supportive, fun, and enriching classroom culture that reflects Wichita Collegiate School’s core values and teaching philosophy.

A commitment to equitable and culturally responsive teaching practices.

A willingness to differentiate instruction, assessment, and feedback to students of all abilities.

A willingness to integrate technology as a tool for engaging students and enhancing instruction.

A willingness for experiential/project-based learning and innovative thinking.

A willingness to communicate with colleagues, students, and parents/guardians.

A willingness to receive and incorporate feedback from colleagues, students, and parents/guardians.

A curiosity for professional growth, development, and leadership opportunities.

A commitment to collaborate and be part of a team.

A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

A commitment to meet the Essential Expectations.

Work Environment: Lower School teachers are all over campus and will need to be able to navigate campus grounds while maintaining order over students. Teachers will be asked to lift up to 15 pounds on occasion. Teachers are expected to work at the students' level as needed; this may include sitting on the floor, bending, or squatting.

All Collegiate Educators are expected to be on campus from August 1 through May 31. During the school year, school hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm; the classroom schedule varies by department. Faculty members are expected to participate in school activities to foster our sense of community; this may include time outside school hours.
