Summary
King School seeks a full-time Lower School Music Teacher to teach Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 music classes for the 2025-2026 academic year. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and creative educator to inspire a love of music in young learners while contributing to a vibrant, collaborative community.
**Primary Responsibilities
**
****Teach engaging, developmentally appropriate music classes for students in PreK–Grade 5.
Design and adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and resources in collaboration with the Director of Music to deliver a cohesive and innovative Pre K–5 music program.
Plan and deliver creative lessons that nurture students’ enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through singing, movement,instrument playing, music theory, and history.
Support the Grade 5 band unit and assist with the Grade 5 musical in partnership with the Director of Music.
Plan, rehearse, and direct students in key performances, including
Integrate music with other subject areas and connect students to global cultures and traditions.
Incorporate current trends, standards, and best practices in music education, with emphasis on inquiry-based and student-driven learning.
Use technology thoughtfully to enhance instruction and student engagement.
Collaborate with Lower School faculty to support curriculum integration and community-wide events.
Communicate regularly with families about student progress through conferences, reports, and ongoing updates.
Fulfill responsibilities as a Lower School faculty member, including arrival, recess, lunch, dismissal, field trips, faculty meetings, professional development days, and Admissions/Community events.
Participate actively in King’s orientation and mentoring programs for faculty.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
Strong foundation in one or more of the following methodologies: Kodály, Orff, or First Steps in Music.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching elementary music and effective classroom management.
Strong vocal and keyboard skills to accompany songs and support ensemble work.
Experience in planning, organizing, and directing concerts and performances at multiple grade levels.
Familiarity with play-based and inquiry-based approaches to teaching.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
