    Job Description

    Lucas Oil Products is seeking a General Counsel to join our leadership team. This executive will advise the company as its senior in-house counsel on a wide range of legal matters including business formation, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, real estate development, succession planning, tax, and general business matters, including employment law. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of 12 years of relevant business and transactional experience at a top-tier law firm and/or as in-house counsel and is committed to allowing businesses to move quickly to achieve their goals, while appropriately managing risk. 

    AS GENERAL COUNSEL, YOU WILL:

    • Represent a premium national brand.

    • Exercise exceptional judgment to advise the LOP Executive team and contribute to the overall success of the business. 

    • Interface with senior management on complex legal and regulatory matters including, but not limited to, regulatory inquiries and examinations, legal opinions, contract negotiations, litigation, early dispute resolution and human resources matters.

    • Provide comprehensive and practical legal advice as it relates to any legal and business commitments of the Company.

    • Directly participate in the Company’s strategic business planning and risk management planning.

    • Negotiate, draft, and review a wide range of contracts related to, among other things, confidentiality, business services, sales, manufacturing, distribution, marketing, licensing, vendors, sponsorships, and special events.

    • Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes in order to advise and guide company management in its course of action.

    • Coordinate, consult with and manage outside counsel on an as needed basis.

    • Provide guidance to paralegal and support staff in addressing legal matters.

    • Occasional travel required.

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Juris Doctor degree.

    • Minimum of 12 years practicing law in a law firm or in-house environment. 

    • License to practice and in good standing with the State Bar of Indiana.

    • Deep experience negotiating and drafting a broad range of commercial contracts.

    • Expertise in a variety of general corporate transactional matters.

    • Demonstrate desire and ability to quickly and effectively develop specialized subject matter expertise on a variety of topics as needed to best serve the Company and leadership. 

    • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity and professionalism.

    • Exceptionally strong writing and verbal communication skills and ability to provide clear and concise legal advice to Company principals.

    • Ability to hold self and others accountable for high-quality, timely, and effective results.

    • Strong ability to cooperate and work creatively and collaboratively toward solutions that benefit all parties.

    • Ability to strike a sensible and practical balance between legal risks and the need to do business.

    • Thrives in an environment where you need to roll-up your sleeves and own outcomes.

    • Team attitude that no job is too big or too small.

    • Talent for thinking outside of the box in confronting new issues and pursuing novel approaches to old problems.

    • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage multiple cross-functional projects to completion with little direction, and quickly shift from one situation or task to another.

    • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.

    • Familiarity with Westlaw, Practical Law and AbacusLaw software
