    ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN I

    Position Description

    Department: Finance Reports to (title): Director of Finance Hours/week: 40 Job Location: Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina Type of Position: Full-Time Classification: Non-Exempt Effective Date: 10/01/2019 PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS In performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees of Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina are expected to conform to the following: Uphold all principles of confidentiality to the fullest extent. Interact in an honest, trustworthy, and respectful manner with employees, Tribal members, visitors, and vendors. Participate in departmental staff meetings, quality management activities, and educational programs. POSITION PURPOSE The Accounting Technician I will record and maintain financial and operating reports, reconcile bank statements, general ledger maintenance, accounts receivables, and accounts payables. ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, & RESPONSIBILITIES

    Assist in the preparation and detailing of financial and operating reports to include tribal budget, department reports, finance committee reports, etc.

    Assist in the upkeep of tribal depreciation schedule.

    Assist in the input and preparation of accounts payable.

    Assist in the reconciliation of accounts receivables.

    Assist in monthly review of general ledger accounts, and prepare necessary journal entries.

    Process accurate and timely quarterly and year-end grant reporting for both state and federal grants.

    Promptly respond to incoming phone calls, email messages, and inquiries from employees and customers, always displaying a proactive approach to customer service and problem resolution. Exhibit a professional level of interaction with all levels of management and non-management.

    Participate in and/or coordinate internal and external audits.

    Reconcile assigned monthly bank statements, prepare adjusting entries as needed.

    Provide oversight for assigned grants.

    Assist staff and the accounting department in budget analysis, accountability, and administration of all tribal expenditures.

    Participate in orientation, training and other personal and professional development related to assigned responsibilities.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration from an accredited university is preferred.

    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration from an accredited university is preferred.

    Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications:

    Technology skills, competencies and proficiencies with Excel, Word, and various accounting software is required.

    A valid NC Driver’s License is required.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT Work environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative to those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Physical demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with clientele , vendors and staff. Mental demands: There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must be able to handle frequent interruptions and must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.
