    PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

    In performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees of Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina are expected to conform to the following:

    POSITION PURPOSE The Residential Cultural Coordinator provides residential supportive services to the residents of the 1937 Housing stock and Elderly Rental Units. This position will provide cultural, educational, and historical activities for Lumbee Tribe residents.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, & RESPONSIBILITIES

    Assist with coordination and planning of cultural activities within the housing sites.

    Provide cultural counseling to Native American youth in individual or group settings.

    Ensure program consistency and that services are delivered in a culturally sensitive manner.

    Establish, foster, and maintain professional relationship with the Lumbee Tribe Administration and relative program leadership by keeping them abreast of upcoming events.

    Provide cultural awareness and training to tribal staff and residents.

    Assist with community resources to maximize efforts of the Lumbee Tribe to identify housing residents that could benefit of cultural events of 37 housing stock tenants and elders.

    Develops new programs to address the needs of our residents.

    Works with staff and our tenants to access needs and issues of the housing community.

    Develop necessary work plans.

    Works with the 37 Stock Manager to ensure information is distributed to the tents regarding relevant issues.

    Assure that all services are delivered in a culturally sensitive manner.

    Perform other duties as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

    Additional duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience: Should have experience with cultural activities and awareness of social issues affecting tribal members.

    Education: Associates degree is preferred.

    Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Qualifications:

    Should have experience with diverse populations and positive working relations with both internal and external agencies and programs.

    Must possess good communication skills, the ability to relate to diverse populations, and organizational skills,

    Must be willing to work evenings and travel throughout the service area.

    Must have a valid driver’s license

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Physical demands:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions. There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with clients, vendors, and staff.

    Mental demands:

    There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must be able to handle frequent interruptions and must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.

    The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina has implemented an Indian Preference in Employment Policy. Pursuant to this Policy, applicants who possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required by this position, and who are members of the Lumbee Tribe will be given primary preference for hiring and employment after providing proof of tribal membership. Indian preference is integrated into the interview and scoring process for candidates for job positions.
