Dental Assistants make patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair. To achieve this, the Dental Assistant performs a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. Some of these responsibilities include: preparing patient for procedures, sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, assist dentist during dental procedures, and maintain records, must be comfortable with performing tasks in a computer.

JOB SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS:

• Expose dental diagnostic X-Rays
• Record treatment information in patient records
• Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
• Clean teeth, using dental instruments including cleaning and polishing removable appliances.
• Apply protective coating of fluoride to teeth.
• Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
• Provide postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist.
