    Job Title: Accountant

    Reports to: Director of Operations

    ABOUT YOU: The ideal candidate will be passionate about the organization's mission and committed to culture change work. S/he will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You have the ability to work on projects from conception to completion and work with agility under pressure and within timelines. This is a unique opportunity for a detail-oriented, proactive, reliable, creative, flexible and strategic leader with an exceptional integrity, a strong work ethic, sound business acumen, extensive knowledge of and experience in accounting, experience as well as implementation skills to join a dynamic, high-functioning organization.

    The Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities, recording and maintaining financial records, and reports to the Director of Operations.

    Accounting Functions

    a. All book keeping/Accounting activities including, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable (rent collection).

    b. Process Journal Entries as needed

    c. Prepare financial reports for Executive Director as needed. Includes customized reports.

    d. Prepares and updates the annual budget – End of year budgets and quarterly forecast budgets including capital improvements and adjustments to expenditures. Works with department directors in managing their budgets

    e. Prepare JE and maintain Amortization Insurance report

    f. Assist in the Annual Accounting Audit

    g. Process 1099's at end of year

    h. Manage employee benefits, and all insurance process and renewals

    i. Maintain all functions of banking accounts including reconciliation, and deposits.

    j. Maintain and reconcile petty cash.

    k. Prepare other reports as needed (Benevolence funds; tenant re-payments)

    l. Prepares monthly financial reports ( i.e. Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, and Income Statement) for the Executive Director

    II. Rent Collection

    a. Oversee the collection and timely deposit of rental checks.

    b. Write and deliver letters on the 6th of the month to residents that pay over, pay under or have not turned in rent as of the 6th of the month. (5th is last day to turn in rent).

    III. Education, Skills, Experience

    a. Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, or Accounting

    b. 2+ years of accounting experience.

    c. Knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles.

    d. Computer literacy especially in QuickBooks, EXCEL, and the full Microsoft Office Suite

    e. Special preference (but not required) for experience working in HUD affordable housing environment with familiarity with OneSite tenant database software.

    f. Strong organizational and time management skills.

    g. Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

    h. Other duties as assigned and approved by the Executive Director

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting

    • Spanish language proficiency both verbal and written
