    Job Summary:

    As the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer/Team Leader, you will be part of a revolutionary design firm. You will be responsible for overseeing the development and execution of engineering system concepts. Also, you'll work closely with and gain direction from the Project Manager/Team Leader.

    Being the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer/Team Leader, you will train and work with Junior and Intermediate staff. By doing this, you will help them to understand all aspects of design and project delivery related to the discipline. This position is responsible for the development and oversight of engineering tools as well as perform design reviews of projects for accuracy, coordination, and constructability.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Attend project progress meetings, provide updates for Project Manager and/or Principal-in-Charge (Including field reviews to monitor project construction status)
    • Develop initial system concepts for buildings based on the owner’s requirements and goals of the project
    • Provide technical support on strategic projects that represent a high risk to ensure proper engineering principals are employed
    • Present system options to clients clearly and cohesively that allows clients to make informed decisions that align with their goals
    • Work with project managers to understand schedule, scope, and fee as it pertains to mechanical design and develop work plans based on those parameters
    • Inform the project manager and principal-in-charge of client requests that do not align with the agreed-upon scope of work in proposal/contract
    • As new products and manufacturers are approved, ensure that details, specifications, and other affected material are updated accordingly
    • Based on feedback from commissioning and construction administration team, revise design standards to amend erroneous content and reflect best practices
    • Perform studies to determine the cause, effect and corrective actions required to remedy deviations impairing desired criteria
    • Train junior/intermediate design staff on-site visits to existing buildings, developing and maintaining checklists that allow existing conditions to be properly documented
    • Train junior/intermediate design staff on-site visits to installations in progress, developing and keeping checklists that ensure systems are installed per contract documents
    • Perform QCs of mechanical designs of projects, providing adequate time for review and comment back check before delivering materials to the client. Perform monitoring and assurance consistent with Company corporate requirements and local guidelines.
    • Keep current on new developments in innovative design; included in this is participating in seminars and/or professional associations; attend trade shows relevant to the company’s interests.

     

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • 8+ years of design experience in HVAC and Plumbing systems
    • Able to read Architectural, Structural, Civil, Electrical drawings with minimal supervision
    • Ready to apply prescriptive requirements of applicable codes
    • Able to perform accurately detailed site surveys
    • Proficiency in coaching/teaching
    • Able to “sketch” ideas and convey a high-level approach
    • Thorough understanding of the results of energy modeling and calculations required

    Education & Certifications:

    • BS Architectural Engineering, BS Mechanical Engineering degree required, or equivalent combination of relevant coursework and minimum 2+ years’ work experience required
    • MS or equivalent degree is an asset
    • PE license is highly preferred
    • LEED Accredited Professional designation is preferred
