Our biotechnology client seeks an Assistant Controller who will plan, direct and oversee the accounting activities of the department.
- Oversee and manages the general accounting functions related to accounts payable and general ledger
- Assess current practices and procedures, and make recommendations for improvements
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Maintain and control the general ledger and various sub-ledgers
- Manage fixed assets and CIP accounts
- Prepare and analyze monthly budget vs. actual reports
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly financial results
- Prepare monthly P&L, Cash Flow and Balance Sheet forecasts
- Oversee and coordinate annual audit
- Direct assigned tasks and provides guidance on escalated matters as needed
- Create and maintain staff schedules to ensure timely execution of deliverables in the most effective manner
- Coach, develop and train staff, set performance goals, lead feedback discussions, performance evaluation, and performance reviews. Will also assist with career mentoring, and disciplinary matters as necessary.
- Interview prospective employees and chooses the best applicant based on skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the job.
- Directly supervise 3 employees within the Accounts Payable department
- Indirectly supervise 1 employee with the Accounts Receivable department
- Indirectly supervise 1 employee within the Accounting department.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration
- CPA preferred
- Life sciences experience in pharmaceutical or biologics environment preferred.
- 10 + years experience in financial accounting
- 5-7 years in a managerial role
- Excellent management and supervisory skills;
- Thorough understanding of general accounting principles
- Knowledge of best practices and internal controls
- Proficient in accounting software (i.e. NetSuite) and Microsoft Suite or related software
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
- Superb verbal and written communication skills
- Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results
- Proficient meeting and training facilitation skills
- Ability to be flexible, adaptive, calm under pressure, and capable of balancing multiple priorities
