    Framatome is seeking a Materials Engineer, with a ceramics focus, in the Fuel Reliability & Materials Group in Richland, WA.  This highly motivated individual will be responsible for the materials design bases supporting the ceramic uranium-oxide fuel pellet design, as well as some support for metallic components.  This job requires becoming familiar with both the manufacturing process requirements as well as the fuel performance aspects of the fuel during irradiation in a commercial nuclear reactor.  As a Materials Engineer, you will work closely with various company teams to facilitate the delivery of fuel products to customers.  You will also work on the development and qualification of new fuel pellet specifications, as well as providing resolution of issues to support manufacturing and customer needs. You will also apply expertise in investigating and supporting resolution of in-reactor fuel performance concerns. 

     

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Deployment of uranium based oxides and related materials for nuclear fuel applications, translating engineering requirements into manufacturing instructions, development and execution of test plans and preparation of engineering analyses and calculations
    • Manufacturing support to ensure delivery of quality fuel products and supporting the resolution of any manufacturing related upsets
    • Development of advanced materials and manufacturing processes as part of a global team
    • Support material test programs and work with external partners to develop next generation fuel products
    • Development and benchmarking of predictive models for irradiation behavior of fuel materials.
    • Development and application of expertise in in-reactor fuel performance and irradiation aspects of nuclear fuel materials.
    • Resolution of in-reactor performance concerns associated with Framatome fuel products
    • Interface with customers, national laboratories, and/or universities on nuclear material topics

    Required Skills Required Experience

    ALL CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY:

    • BS in Ceramics, Materials Science Engineering/Engineering Technology plus 0 -2 years of engineering experience. In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree

    • Strong technical problem-solving abilities
    • Strong interpersonal skills

    • Previous internship/co-op experience in field of study
    • Basic knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria
    • Basic communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data
    • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships
    • Good problem identification and problem resolution skills
    • MS degree in Ceramics or Materials Science/Engineering
    • Previous work experience in the nuclear industry, especially with fuel manufacturing and irradiation effects on fuel
    • Previous experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
    • A proactive approach to problem identification and resolution
    • Ability to become familiar with a variety of new procedures, processes, and tooling, while maintaining priority on production, quality, and customer satisfaction
    • Ability to follow existing procedures/specifications and to develop new ones
    • Perform complex engineering assignments with minimal assistance and instruction.
    • Ability to effectively plan and complete tasks within schedule and budget constraints
    • Experience in Lean product/process development and design, and in manufacturing.
    • French and/or German language skills

  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED EDUCATION LEVEL AND EXPERIENCE:  

    • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.  
    • Shall have previous experience working with young children in a group childcare setting.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Have effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, great thinking skills, ability to focus on multi-tasks, cope with high stress levels, maintain confidentiality, 
    • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, have physical dexterity, and have the ability to reach arms above head. 
    • Must be willing to receive annually 16 in-service hours, CPR and First Aid, and attend staff meetings.

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Assist the director, assistant director, teachers and assistants in daily activities and classroom needs; work a flexible schedule based on staffing needs
    • Complete book orders, dishes, laundry as needed
    • Maintain confidentiality in all classroom
    • Keep an upbeat attitude  
    • Feed, diaper and interact with all children; take children outside daily; communicate with parents about their child’s day 
    • Clean and sanitize toys, cribs, tables and highchairs; stock and maintain diapers, wipes and ointment daily
    • Learn and implement licensing regulations.
