  • Responsibilities

    The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking an Intern to support transit grant/financial management, implementation of short-term transit projects, and administration of federal transit grant program activities. Tasks will generally include technical and/or administrative support to transit projects and programs. Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills are essential to this position. Qualified candidates must be attending an accredited college or university while in the position and able to work at the NCTCOG offices in Arlington, Texas.     Ideal candidates should be able to work at least 25 hours per week while attending school.

    RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:

    • Entering data and maintaining databases, calendars, and contact lists
    • Performing quality control checks on database inputs
    • Assisting with the collection of various transit-related performance measures
    • Assisting with the research, analysis, and interpretation of federal regulations pertaining to compliance with federal funding
    • Assisting with compliance activities consistent with Federal Transit Administration program guidelines
    • Deriving insights and meaningful interpretation of data by performing analysis on various sources, including transit-related financial, service, asset, and safety information
    • Drafting, for supervisor review, technical reports to be submitted to the Federal Transit Administration
    • Preparing draft presentations synthesizing analysis, summarizing research, and providing insights
    • Providing professional support for Transportation Department subcommittees, which may include scheduling regular/cyclical meetings, drafting agendas, and preparing handouts

    Required Skills

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Good interpersonal skills, with ability to interact with partner agencies in a courteous and professional manner, and coordinate and communicate with other team members
    • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
    • Detail oriented, organized, and able to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines
    • Sensitivity to cultural, socioeconomic, and political issues in the community
    • Ability to interpret Federal Transit Administration grant compliance reporting requirements
    • Strong analytical skills, with ability to interpret data trends
    • Willingness to learn
    • Must be able to accept new techniques and procedures quickly and integrate them into daily job function

    Required Experience

    • Must be attending an accredited college or university during employment. Pursuit of a degree in a related field desired and at least one year of school-related experience preferred

    SALARY

    Starting at $14.11 per hour
