    SUBSTATION DESIGNER - CIVIL/STRUCTURAL 

    WESTWOOD PROFESSIONAL SERVICES, INC. 

     

    WESTWOOD PROFESSIONAL SERVICES, INC. is seeking a Substation Designer - Civil/Structural to join our Raleigh, NC office team.  The civil, structural designer would work with our growing Substation Engineering Team to prepare structural detail drawings for high voltage utility substations projects and renewable energy interconnections.  The position would require the employee to work with engineers and consultants to create these drawings. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. 

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Computer-aided design and drafting of all engineering products and deliverables.
    • Collaborate with engineers and other drafters to correct discrepancies in drawings and designs.
    • Typical drafting is that of:
      • Foundation Layout Plans
      • Steel Structure Fabrication Drawings
      • Concrete Foundation Detail Drawings
      • Oil Containment Detail Drawings
      • Metal Grate Platforms Detail Drawings
      • Fire Wall Detail Drawings
      • Importation of tables and calculations such as BOMs and creating notes to be applied to each drawing.
    • Self-checks all work performed to ensure its accuracy before turning it over to the supervisor or designee assigned to review the work.
    • Understand & meet project schedule and quality requirements.
    • Complete drawings accurately and efficiently.
    • Detailed and quality-oriented.
    • Able to handle multiple projects concurrently and maintain flexibility to changes in work assignments as changes occur in projects.
    • Actively assist in the delivery of a complete project. This may include phone or e-mail correspondence, attending meetings, and other project documents required for project completion.
    • Provide interdepartmental support as required.

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    • Associate degree in Design & Drafting Technology or related field of study.
    • Minimum of 3 yrs. of CAD experience, AutoCAD experience preferred.
    • Previous experience drafting drawings for high voltage utility substations projects is preferred.
    • Knowledge of transmission and distribution projects in addition to substation projects is preferred.
    • Excellent Verbal & Written communication skills.

    • Ability to invite and accept constructive feedback
    • Ability to use Microsoft Office Products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Qualifications

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

    Must have knowledge of construction skills including carpentry; reading blueprints; use of hand and power tools and possess a both a technical and mechanical aptitude.  Customer-service oriented with good verbal and written communication skills.  Position is required to interact with a variety of people including customers, vendors, and employees from other departments.  Must be adaptable and have the flexibility to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with ability to coordinate several activities simultaneously.  Must possess decision-making and problem-solving abilities to select among alternative courses of action within budget limitations; detail-oriented for time management effectiveness.  A working knowledge of Outlook and Build Pro is a plus.
