    Veterinary Technician Assistant – Job Description

    A veterinary technician assistant, work under the supervision of veterinarians or veterinary technicians to provide support and assistance in various aspects of animal care.

    Animal Handling: Veterinary technician assistants are responsible for handling and restraining animals during examinations, treatments, and procedures. They must ensure the safety and comfort of the animals while minimizing stress.

    Animal Care and Feeding: They assist with feeding, grooming, bathing, and general care of animals. This includes cleaning cages, pens, and other animal enclosures, as well as maintaining a clean and organized environment.

    Assisting with Examinations and Treatments: Veterinary technician assistants may help with basic procedures such as taking vital signs (temperature, heart rate, respiration rate), collecting samples (blood, urine, etc.), and preparing equipment and supplies for examinations and treatments.

    Monitoring and Record-Keeping: They observe and monitor animals for changes in behavior, symptoms, or vital signs. They also assist in maintaining accurate medical records and updating patient information.

    Laboratory Support: Veterinary technician assistants may help with basic laboratory procedures, such as preparing samples, running diagnostic tests, and properly handling and disposing of laboratory waste.

    Client Communication and Education: They may interact with pet owners, providing basic information and education on topics like medication administration, post-operative care, and general animal health and wellness.

    Inventory Management: They assist in managing inventory by ordering and restocking medical supplies, medications, and other necessary equipment.

    Assisting in Surgery: Under the direct supervision of a veterinarian or veterinary technician, they may help prepare the surgical suite, sterilize instruments, and assist during surgical procedures.

    And any other duties as assigned.
