    DESCRIPTION:

    The Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs (APFA) reports to the Provost and directly assists and advises the Provost in carrying out responsibilities relative to faculty roles and responsibilities. Specifically, the APFA facilitates and manages the faculty evaluation processes of the University and oversees the mission and work of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CTLA).  Additionally, the APFA works collaboratively with faculty governance to ensure fair and equitable policies around the hiring, retention, advancement, and leadership development of faculty. This position closely collaborates with Deans, Chairs, faculty, and other academic leaders to ensure faculty thrive as teachers, scholars, leaders, and colleagues in a stimulating and inclusive academic environment. The position also has responsibility for collaborating with the Senior Associate Provost of Operations and Strategic Planning on actualizing the Academic Affairs portion of the university strategic plan.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Cultivate a campus culture that supports, honors, and rewards the achievements, faith integration, and creativity of a diverse faculty
    • Oversee policies which promote diversity and equity as they relate to the recruitment, appointment, orientation, evaluation, advancement, retention, recognition, and compensation of academic appointees in accordance with University policies, procedures, and best practices
    • Guide faculty to programs and resources for innovative teaching strategies and technologies, with a focus on inclusive excellence
    • Ensure that faculty are nurtured throughout the career lifespan through mentorship and leadership development programs
    • Ensure that new faculty and adjunct faculty are equipped with resources and programs for effective inclusive pedagogy, faith integration, and teaching with technology
    • Create systems that encourage collaboration and service among faculty and their campus partners, offering access to supportive resources and personnel, and fostering a sense of belonging
    • Leads assessment efforts which promote, retain, and advance efforts for student-centered learning, particularly for at-risk and marginalized populations in conjunction with the Office of the Provost and schools/colleges
    • Partner with faculty governance to create academic policies and practices that support faculty thriving and student learning
    • Serve as the Provost’s representative in and with the Faculty Senate
    • Provide opportunities for the professional and leadership development of deans, department chairs, and program directors on themes important to their success
    • Engage in problem-solving with academic leaders and faculty to manage conflict and reduce potential liability
    • Oversee the performance management systems of all academic positions
    • Manage the annual revisions of the Faculty Handbook
    • Oversee the faculty and staff reporting to the APFA by conducting annual reviews, working with schools/colleges in which CTLA faculty teach, and create an efficient office for meeting the needs of faculty across campus
    • Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the needs of the university

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • Doctoral Degree required 
    • 5-7 years of higher education administration experience minimum

     

     

    EXPERIENCE:  

    The successful candidate will be an experienced academic leader who has held progressively responsible administrative roles in an academic setting. They will have demonstrated a record of ethical, fair, and innovative leadership, with excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills, as well as a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion and respect for shared governance. Required credentials are an earned terminal degree in the candidate’s field, with a strong record of scholarship and teaching. The successful candidate demonstrates a vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University.     • Suitable for absolvents
    • Previous experience of international assignments /working and living abroad would be an advantage
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is a must, knowledge of the Czech language is not needed

    • Previous customer service experience including customer facing and relationship building preferred
    • Be enthusiastic, flexible, creative and assertive
