    Under close supervision of the Landscape Services Manager, performs a variety of entry level grounds keeping duties to keep the campus attractive and litter free.

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION

    • High school education or equivalent.

                                                                                                                                                                        

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • Entry level up to two years of grounds keeping experience.
    • Skills: Knowledge of materials and tools (as listed below) needed to maintain lawns and shrubs.

     

    PRIMARY DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Performs all CORE DUTIES on a routine basis, under close supervision:

    • Operates and performs routine maintenance on basic grounds keeping equipment, including: walk behind mower, edger, string trimmer, blower, hedge trimmer, chainsaw, transport vehicle, backpack sprayer, hand pruners, loppers, saws, various hand tools, irrigation controllers in designated areas, fertilizer spreader and ladders
    • Maintains existing landscaping to keep area clean and pedestrian friendly.
    • Repairs irrigation lines and sprinkler heads. Operates irrigation controllers in areas assigned
    • Trims and prunes shrubs and trees to control size and keep walking area clear from obstruction
    • Monitors irrigation needs
    • Keeps all areas weed free
    • Uses non-selective herbicide as directed and keeps a record of chemical use
    • Feeds turf as directed

    Follows detailed instructions and established procedures. Refers all problems to immediate supervisor.

    Works as part of a team to accomplish tasks.

    Completes special projects as required.

    Responsible for daily electronic timekeeping as it applies to the scope of this position.

    Regular, punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs.

    Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    • Knowledge of materials and tools {as listed above} needed to maintain lawns and shrubs.

     

    MENTAL DEMANDS

    • Able to understand verbal and written instructions.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
    • In agreement with the purpose and goals of Azusa Pacific University in providing a Christian-based higher education for its students.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • Able to do heavy work, i.e., lift 50-75 lbs.
    • Stooping, bending, reaching, climbing, pulling, repetitive motions.

     

    VISUAL DEMANDS

    • Monitor job performance; inspect and operate machinery.

     

    ENVIRONMENT

    • Subject to outdoor environment conditions-temperatures above 95 degrees for periods of more than an hour.
    • Subject to noise and vibration.
    • Subject to hazards-proximity to moving mechanical parts, electric current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals and oils.

     

    TECHNOLOGIES

    • Able to use computer to access email and online training.

     

    COMPENSATION

    • Grade 5: $16.11-$20.94/hourly
    • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret Security clearance and be capable of obtaining a Common Access Card
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Three  years of experience with LCS HM&E systems (LCS experience can be from time as LCS crew member or government civilian/ship repair contractor performing maintenance on LCS platforms)
    • Experience with Tag Out User's Manual
    • Experience with Planned Maintenance System
