    As a Project Manager (PM) at Latham, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the electronic discovery project. The PM works with Latham's case teams and clients to implement technology solutions that facilitate the collection, review, and retrieval of electronic data used as potential evidence throughout the lifecycle of the matter.  The PM should possess an in-depth understanding of electronic discovery, the litigation lifecycle, and litigation technologies.  The PM applies subject matter expertise, where appropriate and necessary.  The PM serves as the primary point of contact for all parties involved and will be responsible for ensuring that proper project expectations are established, fulfilled and communicated. The responsibilities of the PM will also include:

    • Using knowledge and experience while consulting with the Firm’s attorneys and clients to provide guidance regarding the best practices for handling clients’ electronically stored information (ESI) and how best to use technology to support their matters including data collection, data processing, and document production
    • Managing the collection, processing, review, and production of client ESI through external service providers and / or the Practice Support Center
    • Drafting vendor cost comparison matrices, estimating discovery costs, and preparing budgets as necessary; ensuring compliance with Firm policies regarding vendor contracts; maintaining accurate logs of data handling through all phases of review and production
    • Creating data processing and production specifications for vendors or the Practice Support Center team and ensuring the accuracy of deliverables
    • Accurately interpreting and understanding legal teams’ needs, anticipating potential issues, and documenting these details in the team’s standard project tracking tools
    • Working with the legal teams, Practice Support Center, and vendors on effective database design and workflow to ensure efficient document review and productions
    • Acting as a point of contact and liaison between the legal teams, vendors, the Practice Support Center and other Firm support teams to document instructions, manage timelines, and ensure proper communications between the parties
    • Consulting with legal teams and clients on issues relating to the selection of vendors and the evaluation of review platform options to determine the most appropriate solution
    • Facilitating completion of various tasks including keyword searches, analysis of client data and filtering of system files and non-responsive file type culling, production logs, privilege logs, coding, depositions, and general trial preparation
    • Providing or facilitating end-user training to the legal teams on all document review platforms
    • Providing input and assisting in the preparation for case management and meet-and-confer conferences, and other production specification discussions
    • Keeping abreast of technology offerings from electronic discovery service providers and software vendors, evaluating vendors, negotiating pricing, and making recommendations to the legal teams based on the needs of the case
    • Monitoring and remaining apprised of case law developments in electronic discovery and litigation technology
    • Assisting in marketing the services of the Practice Technology Consulting (PTC) team through writing internal publications and delivering presentations to internal legal teams
    • Assisting with the review and revision of standard template documents used by the PTC team
    • Completing other projects as assigned by the PTC leadership

     

    As a PM, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful PM must have strong operational skills and knowledge of the legal process and electronic discovery best practices and the ability to apply this knowledge to relevant casework. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of IT systems architecture including server systems, email systems, database systems, telecommunications systems, mobile devices, social media, and cloud storage, as well as a working knowledge of forensics collection methodologies, ESI processing, and document review technologies. The PM should have extensive knowledge of one or more industry-leading review applications, such as Relativity, Eclipse, ViewPoint, Axcelerate, Insight, Disco, and Nuix Discover, along with working knowledge of text analytics methodologies such as near duplicate detection, email threading, concept searching, clustering and categorization, and the applications used to implement these methodologies. The PM should also have knowledge of general practice support and fact management applications such as Opus2, Allegory, Case Notebook, CaseMap, West Case Timeline, Allegory, eDepoze, and an awareness of emerging practice support applications. The successful PM will have strong leadership and analytical skills, organizational skills to manage time well, and be detail-oriented.

     

    A Bachelor’s degree is required. A certification in project management or eDiscovery practices (ex. PMP and / or CEDS) is preferred. A minimum of four (4) years of experience in either electronic discovery consulting and project management, or litigation support including data processing and document review platforms, is desired.

  • Qualifications
    • Familiarity and experience with HM&E shipboard equipment on Military Vessels.
    • Ability to use Microsoft Excel above casual user experience. Must be able to work unsupervised creating, editing, combining, and presenting complicated Excel spreadsheets for import into US Government Data bases.
    • Experience with parts ordering, part top down breakout structure, parts catalogs, maintenance of HM&E shipboard equipment, and repair parts technical manuals
    • Candidate must have active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain clearance
