Job Summary: As an Operating Room Surgical Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of patients undergoing surgical procedures. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to provide high-quality surgical assistance, maintain a sterile environment, and facilitate the smooth operation of the operating room.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation and Setup:
- Prepare surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies for surgical procedures.
- Ensure the operating room is set up according to the specific needs of each surgery.
- Verify the functionality and sterility of all instruments and equipment.
- Assistance During Surgery:
- Pass instruments, sponges, and other necessary items to the surgical team.
- Maintain a sterile field and assist the surgeon by providing instruments and supplies as requested.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other team members to enhance efficiency.
- Infection Control:
- Adhere to strict infection control protocols and maintain a sterile environment throughout the surgical procedure.
- Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to protect patients and staff.
- Patient Care:
- Position and prepare patients for surgery, including cleaning and draping the surgical site.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and report any significant changes to the surgical team.
- Post-Operative Duties:
- Assist with the proper disposal of used materials and instruments.
- Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments for future use.
- Restock the operating room with supplies as needed.
- Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Accurately document all relevant information, including instrument counts and patient records.
- Maintain precise records of surgical instruments and supplies used during procedures.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) is required.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- Previous experience as an Operating Room Surgical Technician is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Attention to detail, with a strong focus on patient safety.
