    About METCO, Inc. Founded in 1966, METCO is the largest voluntary school desegregation program in the country. It is the commonwealth's only program designed to address the long standing racial and economic segregation in our public schools. METCO is a critical asset in our collective effort to close the achievement gap in Mass. Following the passage of the Racial Imbalance Act in 1966, the METCO program provides the opportunity for children from racially segregated schools in Boston and children from isolated suburban schools to learn together in an integrated public school setting. What We're Looking For We are seeking teachers who are talented, flexible, culturally competent, and motivated to teach in the METCO 2023 Summer School Program. We anticipate combining classes in the following format. However, this structure is subject to change depending upon the number of students enrolled at each grade. The program will enroll METCO students in K through 6th grade. In this position, you will lead a single grade class teaching math and ELA. Also, teachers will work with students who have fallen behind in their academic level, which may require you to provide extra help or move at a slower pace. Teachers must also ensure that the students that they work with are actively engaged throughout the length of class. Our ideal applicant has prior successful experience working with differentiated instruction. Applicants must also have at least a bachelor's degree in your field and a valid teaching license. Summer Teacher Duties and Responsibilities * Be available for paid staff trainings from Jul 5, 2023 through Jul 7, 2023 * Fulfillment of all daily duties are required during weeks 1-4 (July10-August 4, 2023) of summer school instruction, and the week (August 7-11, 2023) is allocated to progress report writing, as detailed in the job description * Attend all mandatory summer school meetings, orientation, and program training sessions. * Develop professional relationships with colleagues, students and families * Prepare classroom space to be conducive to student learning (i.e. ensuring students are in a quiet space with minimal distractions, etc.) * Supervision of students at all times to ensure student safety and well-being * Connect lesson plans with data results from students' pre-assessments * Deliver intentional academic instruction to prevent student summer learning loss * Providing strong academic instruction that supports students increased academic achievement in ELA and Math * Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. * Utilize various curriculum resources provided by instructional coach * Support the development of students' socio-emotional skills, and soft skills that will increase self-efficacy. * Lead classroom instruction, experiential learning, and Interdisciplinary activities with support of teaching assistant * Administer quizzes and tests to measure students' progress * Assign homework and projects that assist with student learning and achievement * Provide additional academic support to students when necessary * Administer post assessments to all students to measure their academic progress * Communicate with the instructional coach to ensure learning goals are on track to be met * Attend, chaperone, and supervise all students on all field trips * Work with teaching assistants on developing classroom management skills * Observe and evaluate student performance * Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures * Participate in mandatory feedback interviews with the principal, and instructional coach. * Assist with compiling inventory of curriculum materials after conclusion of summer school program Summer Teacher Requirements and Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in your field * Valid teaching license * At least 1+ years or more teaching experience * Strong communication and leadership skills * Strong instructional and classroom management skills * Ability to work on an accelerated schedule * Special Education Certification a plus * Outgoing personality * Ability to motivate students * Strong organizational skills and attention to details a must * Bilingual (Spanish/English) and/or (Haitian Creole/English) preferred * Cultural competence (experience and ability to work with diverse populations) Preferred Summer Teacher Qualifications * Experience working within a summer learning program * Master's Degree in Education * Special education certification Physical Demands: Must be able to walk, stand, sit for extended periods of time • Duties may be performed outdoors and indoors; some heavy lifting may be necessary Stipend: $ 7,700 throughout the summer To apply, submit a cover letter and resume to: jobs@metcoinc.org
