    JOB SUMMARY

    As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for completing all assigned tasks by organizing and controlling all elements of a project.  This position will schedule, plan, forecast, resource and manage all activities aiming at assuring project accuracy and quality from conception to completion. Your ultimate responsibility is to bring a budgeted and successful project to life while satisfying all parties involved.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Participate in all phases of the project cycle; pre-fielding, estimating, development, construction, billing and final acceptance
    • Coordinate with the Superintendents regarding daily schedules including manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, suppliers, etc.
    • Assist in creating the baseline schedule from the job estimate.
    • Write effective proposals, RFIs, and letters of intent.
    • Schedule and attend pre-construction with Project Managers and Superintendents.
    • Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors to determine design specifications.
    • Test soils or materials to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt, or steel.
    • Review daily quantities and generate master/field files.
    • Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety standards.
    • Document any delays and/or changes to the scope of work.
    • Assist in processing change orders.
    • Maintain as-built drawings.
    • Provide technical advice to industrial or managerial personnel regarding design, construction or program modifications or structural repairs.
    • Manage and direct the construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project site
    • Expand existing business through relationship development with owner representatives of the projects.
    • Ensure adherence to all Company safety policies and OSHA safety standards.
    • Learn and become proficient in our Project Management Software.
    • Travel to job sites when needed.
    • Perform other job-related duties as requested by your supervisor.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • 2 years of verifiable utility construction experience OR 3 years of verifiable utility construction experience without a degree.
    • Experience in estimating is preferred.
    • Knowledge of construction procedures.
    • Understands the process of building a job from start to finish.
    • Proficient in reading blueprints, plans, specs, contracts and purchase orders.
    • Proficient in planning, scheduling and production.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Excellent analytical and planning skills.
    • Organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
    • Time management skills.
    • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
    • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and verbal instructions.
    • Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding MGE’s policies, procedures and software programs.
    • Ability to use a computer/smart phone/tablet.
    • Valid Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
    • REQUIRED: Successful candidates must pass the following pre-employment requirements prior to beginning employment: drug screen and background check. Background checks include, but are not limited to, Social Security Verification, Prior Employment Verification, Motor Vehicle Records, Personal and Professional References, Criminal History.

     

    EDUCATION

    • B.S. Degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or Construction Management required.
    • Professional Engineer Registry preferred.

    • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
