    Job Description

    MIKEL is currently seeking Systems Engineers willing to be part of a team of engineers and technicians providing engineering and technical support to the Systems Safety and Reliability Engineering Branch, Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport RI. This multi-disciplinary team is responsible for system safety, software safety, occupational safety and health, hazard management and environmental compliance for US Navy Undersea Weapons Systems (UWS). The scope of work includes a broad spectrum of research, analysis, development, integration, installation, test, system and safety engineering, engineering and evaluation support for UWS. The candidate will conduct research, studies and analyses to ensure that system safety engineering requirements and specifications are incorporated into the design of systems from concept phase throughout a systems life cycle. The candidate will employ existing guidelines and instructions, guidance from higher-level system safety engineers, experience, and independent judgment to plan and accomplish task objectives. Candidates need experience in Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, or preferably a combination of both. 

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

    • Active Secret Clearance
    • A Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline (computer, software, electrical and mechanical) is required with seven (7) years of related experience. 
    • Heavyweight and/or lightweight torpedo experience especially with actual torpedo safety background, Combat Systems Safety, Range System safety, Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUV) safety, WSESRB Interactive Safety Environment (WISE) training.
    • Analytical ability to define problems, collect necessary data, establish facts, and to take recommended action based upon applicable established guidelines
    • Effective communication, both verbal and written with the ability to work in a team environment
    • Experienced with MIL-STD-882 and submarine weapons systems safety.

    Department of Defense SECRET security clearance or higher is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
