Position: Payroll Clerk
Reports To: Rolando Lopez, CFO
Job Summary:
MISTR is currently looking for a seasoned Payroll Clerk to join our team and oversee all payroll-related activities for employee compensation within our diverse company structure. The Payroll Clerk will play a pivotal role in entering payroll data, calculating wages, ensuring multi-state compliance, and managing payment processing tasks. Given the complexity of our organization with various divisions and units, the ideal candidate will underline confidentiality while excelling in meticulous data entry, accurate mathematical calculations, and deep knowledge of state and federal regulations governing payroll for W2 and 1099 employees. A professional demeanor, effective communication abilities, and a meticulous approach to executing payroll functions with precision and compliance are key expectations of this role.
This position is responsible for the meticulous preparation and processing of payrolls for all employees in our company. The Payroll Clerk's duties encompass collecting and consolidating timesheet data, calculating wages, generating detailed earning statements, and issuing direct deposits. Upholding compliance with company policies and adhering to federal, state, and local laws pertaining to payroll transactions is essential. The Payroll Clerk will collaborate closely with the Human Resources department and may provide support in benefits administration. Key qualities required for success in this role include a sharp eye for detail, strong numerical proficiency, and unwavering integrity.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Enters, maintains, and processes a variety of information in the payroll system, including employee compensation details, time worked, leave, deductions, and personal information updates.
· Ensures accurate processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other withholdings.
· Reconciles payroll records with the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
· Issues or reissues direct deposits in case of payroll errors or final discharge.
· Ensures federal and state payroll tax deposits are processed by the payroll system.
· Ensures all required state and federal pay period and annual reporting filings are taken care of.
· Collaborates with the HR department to update employee rates, manage additions/deletions, and handle garnishments.
· Reviews any state, federal, or Puerto Rico payroll tax notices that are received and resolves issues timely.
· Performs additional tasks as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate processing of payroll information.
· Strong mathematical proficiency for precise calculations and computations.
· Excellent communication skills with problem-solving acumen to address any payroll-related queries or discrepancies effectively.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software for data management and reporting tasks.
· Proficient in payroll software usage or the ability to swiftly grasp and master new payroll systems.
· Must be fluent in English.
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma, Associate in Accounting, or equivalent is a mandatory requirement.
· A minimum of two years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping, with at least six months of specific experience in payroll processing preferred.
· Familiarity with various payroll processing software (e.g., Gusto, ADP) is advantageous and considered a plus.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Ability to lift up to 15 pounds intermittently.
