    Job Description

    Telemundo Arizona is seeking a highly driven Investigative Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to join Telemundo Investiga, our in-depth and accountability reporting unit. This role is designed for a journalist who goes beyond daily coverage to expose irregularities, uncover wrongdoing, and hold powerful institutions accountable, always to deliver meaningful impact and positive change for our community.

    The ideal candidate is self-motivated, relentlessly curious, and solutions-oriented, with a proven ability to find the “why” behind complex issues. This journalist will originate investigative story ideas, pursue hard-to-get sources, analyze data, and produce compelling, ethical storytelling across linear, digital, and social media platforms.

    Investigative Reporting & Enterprise Journalism

    • This individual will manage shooting, writing, and editing daily stories and gather material to contribute to building the rundown.
    • This person is responsible and must be able to set up, run, and manage live shots independently.
    • File stories for our linear, Fast Channel, OTT (Over the Top), and digital Platforms. Develop, pitch, and execute original investigative and enterprise stories that expose misconduct, systemic failures, or inequities affecting our community.
    • Identify patterns and trends related to public safety, education, finances, housing, government accountability, and quality of life.
    • Hold individuals, agencies, and institutions accountable through fact-based, ethical, and fair reporting.
    • Demonstrate persistence in pursuing difficult stories and hard-to-reach sources, including whistleblowers, officials, and data-driven leads.
    • Develop and keep a network of contacts supplying access to exclusive stories.
    • Collaborate closely with newsroom leadership, producers, digital editors, and legal/standards teams throughout the investigative process.

    Research, Data & Tools

    • Navigate and analyze complex databases and public records, including but not limited to:
      • LexisNexis
      • PACER
      • Public records requests (FOIA)
      • Court, law enforcement, and government databases
    • Analyze large datasets using Excel and other data tools to uncover trends, anomalies, and patterns of wrongdoing.
    • Use newsroom and third-party tools to support investigative workflows, verification, and documentation.

    Content Production (On-Air & Digital)

    • Producing high-quality video using Adobe Premiere.
    • Craft compelling scripts and digital narratives that translate complex investigations into clear, engaging, and accessible storytelling.
    • Adapt investigative reporting for multiple platforms, including long-form digital, short-form video, explainers, and follow-ups.
    • Maintain strong visual storytelling standards, including interviews, b-roll, graphics, and data visualization.

    Editorial & Ethical Standards

    • Operate in a fast-paced newsroom environment while maintaining the highest standards of journalistic ethics, accuracy, and fairness.
    • Adhere to NBCUniversal and Telemundo News Standards & Practices, legal guidelines, and investigative protocols.
    • Ensure stories are thoroughly vetted, fact-checked, and balanced before publication or broadcast.

    Qualifications

    • Fluency in Spanish and English, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
    • Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a reporter/MMJ, with demonstrated investigative or enterprise reporting experience.
    • Excellent writing, interviewing, and storytelling skills in Spanish (English proficiency strongly preferred).
    • Strong track record of original story generation and accountability journalism.
    • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Technical proficiency with video shooting and editing equipment and software.

    Additional Requirements

    Required On-Site : This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
