    Job title: Youth Activity/Recreation Specialist

    Reports to: Activity Coordinator

    FSLA Classification: Non-Exempt

    General Summary – The Youth Activity Specialist will be responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of a robust residential activity schedule for Morningstar Children’s Home. Working closely with the Resident Activity Coordinator and Residential Leadership Team, the YAS will participate in planning, implementation, and supervision of a therapeutic and general activities program encompassing physical, spiritual, and emotional health for the children, as well as support to the Workforce Development Program.

    Qualifications:

    ⦁ Bachelor’s degree, in health science, recreation, education or social work-related field, preferred.

    ⦁ Minimum of two (2) years’ professional experience working with youth.

    ⦁ Must be able to work a non-traditional schedule, including some early evenings and weekends.

    Main Responsibilities:

    Activity Planning and Implementation

    ⦁ Provide support toward creation of a variety of weekly activities, on and off campus, to promote physical, spiritual, and emotional health for residents, giving attention to the ability levels of all students. The calendar would include after school, weekend, holidays, school breaks, and summer planning.

    ⦁ Maintain supplies and equipment needed for activities, working within an approved activity budget.

    ⦁ As scheduled, serve as a PLAY staffer on the campus team, creating excitement for healthy movement, therapeutic activity, and general play with all residents.

    ⦁ Provide training to Youth Mentor Specialist for group games, crafts, and equipment use/safety.

    ⦁ Working in partnership with the Residential team, ensure transportation is available as needed via Morningstar or rental vehicles.

    Workforce Development Support

    ⦁ As assigned, monitor on-campus student work, making sure that campus jobs are a true steppingstone for learning and demonstrating readiness for off-campus work opportunities.

    ⦁ Support as needed in transporting students to off-campus worksite.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    Physical demands and work environment are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Ability to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds. This position requires moderate to intense visual concentration, reading, using a computer and reviewing documents. This position may have contact with MCFS staff, residents, families, and vendors/suppliers requiring excellent communication and problem-solving skills and professional demeanor.
