    The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Programs invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach GE 100; the First Year Seminar course.

     

     RESPONSIBILITIES

    The primary responsibility of adjunct faculty is to deliver First Year Seminar curriculum in the manner determined by the General Education Council and Vice Provost for Undergraduate Programs. In addition, faculty responsibilities may include:

    • Preparation of syllabus and teaching of curriculum according to the goals and objectives of First Year Seminar.

    • Office hours in relation to the course load carried, and as assigned in the faculty teaching assignment.

    • Participation in faculty training and/or meetings and coordination with student peer mentors as identified by the department chair or program director, and described in the adjunct faculty agreement.

    • Determine student mastery of material and assign final course grades from evaluation of papers and other assignments related to course material, including completion of required “beyond the classroom” First Year Seminar activities.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must have a master’s or terminal degree in the field of instruction or related area.
    • Preferred experience includes teaching at the college or university level with first year students.
    • The ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
    • A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University.

     

     WORKLOAD

    Assigned teaching duties will not exceed 9 units per semester; office hours and additional duties may be assigned. Total workload will not exceed 29 hours per week, nor 24 units per 12-month period.

    • Ability to follow-up, follow through and provide timely progress updates on assigned tasks.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills to communicate and coordinate with others on routine but varied issues.

    • Ability to work successfully with direct supervision in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressure.
