    The University of Montana invites applications for the Director of Prestigious Scholarships and Fellowships housed in the Davidson Honors College.  The Director of Prestigious Scholarships and Fellowships will work closely with campus partners such as every school and college, the Franke Global Leadership Initiative, the Graduate School, Academic Enrichment, and Career Services to coordinate a campus-wide effort to support University of Montana (UM) students in their pursuit of distinguished external scholarships and fellowships.  This effort will include publicizing national fellowship, scholarship, and grant opportunities, providing resources, advising students about these opportunities, working with campus partners to identify and cultivate potential fellowship and scholarship applicants, identifying and convening review panels and selection committees, working with alumni, donors and the fellowship advisory committee, and providing support for the competition process.

     

    The position will report to the Dean of the Davidson Honors College and will serve all UM students, in collaboration with all academic units.

     

    Duties include:

    • Serve as the campus expert on external scholarships, fellowships, and awards, including but not limited to Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, Gates-Cambridge, Fulbright, Truman, Udall, Goldwater, and Critical Languages Scholarships
    • Work with campus partners to enhance publicity of fellowship and scholarship opportunities
    • Work with campus partners to provide training and assistance in advising their participants on fellowship and scholarship opportunities
    • Develop a culture of early identification and cultivation of potential scholarship and fellowship applicants
    • Hold information sessions on various opportunities
    • Maintain institutional records of applicants and their success
    • Follow longitudinal progress of fellowship winners in reaching their educational career goals
    • Develop effective on-campus selection processes
    • Develop effective means of communicating the results of selection processes to the campus community
    • Expand faculty involvement in the fellowship process
    • Maintain a dynamic and constantly updated website.
    • Participate actively in conferences and activities offered by the National Association of Fellowships Advisors
    • Support the Davidson Honors College in promoting and executing UM’s Undergraduate and Graduate Research Conferences
    • Lead and implement program assessment and reporting activities

    POSITION DETAILS

    • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
    • Starting salary for this position is $52,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Evidence of scholarly interest and accomplishments
    • Commitment to advising students using best practices to enhance their learning and development
    • Superior writing skills coupled with the ability to help students write personal and research statements
    • Superior public speaking and presentation skills
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
    • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of constituents from diverse backgrounds and academic areas, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni
    • Possess a steadfast commitment to diversity, maintaining an inclusive institutional environment

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master’s degree
    • Three (3) years of experience with increasing responsibility in undergraduate advising (fellowships, academic, or career development)
    • In-depth experience of the liberal arts university environment
    • Undergraduate teaching or fellowships advising experience or sufficient practical experience in order to provide comparable understanding of the demands of national fellowship competitions is desired
    • Demonstrative quantitative literacy
