    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    This position provides the following support for the Nuclear Weapons Acquisition Division, AFNWC/NDB which is co-located with the Armament Directorate at Eglin AFB, FL.  The Nuclear Weapons Acquisition Division has responsibility for developing, testing, and producing systems and components related to nuclear strategic weapon systems for our nation's warfighters. These products include the Long Range Standoff (LRSO) cruise missile. 

    • Provide resources with knowledge and experience in identifying, analyzing, and evaluating mechanical, structural, thermal, and material characteristics and performance of armament systems resulting from transportation, handling, storage, and operational use. Knowledge and experience shall also include modal analysis, finite element analysis, and structural frequency testing.
    • Provide Air Vehicle Structural analysis
    • Assist in reviewing prime contractor test plans and reports
    • Participate in Test Readiness Reviews for a wide variety of prime contractor tests
    • Assist in witnessing prime contractor test events
    • Assist in adjudicating discrepancies between prime contractor and the SRD/SOW/Milspecs
    • Provide technical expertise to drive multi-disciplinary decisions
    • Conduct reviews on armament programs portfolio to evaluate and/or recommend alternative plans, improve systems engineering programs/processes, manage/sustain program technical baseline, and design/perform system level tests to assure that subsystems and system performance is achieved IAW approved specifications; perform program reviews to evaluate alternative proposed plans, systems engineering programs, design and test results to assure that subsystem and system performance is achieved IAW program specifications; prepare technical documents which define, specify, and recommend system/subsystem
    • Prepare management reports and conduct technical presentations for planning, implementation and corrective actions using application of engineering principles; perform validation of systems, including development of criteria and
    • Analyze and/or evaluate results of major engineering weapon systems
    • Provide system/program engineering, technical support and technical training to support programs/initiatives, including but not limited to: acquisition, development, integration, sustainment, continued evolution, deployment/fielding and installation, and operations oversight; provide engineering support services and inputs to program and project risk management activities in compliance with Air Force Systems Engineering Assessment Model (AF SEAM)
    • Provide engineering support to conduct formal trade studies based on engineering performance, effectiveness, cost effectiveness, cost performance, life cycle cost, producibility, reliability, maintainability, risk, and schedule; provide technical recommendation support services, including reviews, studies, audits, evaluations and analyses, scientific and procedural guidance, documentation, technical analysis, and support of associated engineering
    • Provide proposal analysis support services that compare and quantify proposed systems, components, approaches for technical feasibility, compatibility, and cost effectiveness; provide concepts and requirements analyses support services including, but not limited to, reviewing and analyzing: Initial Capabilities Documents; CDDs; CPDs; AoAs; Military Utility Assessments (MUAs); CONOPS; Technology Development Strategies; Functional Configuration Audits/Physical Configuration Audits (FCAs/PCAs), and; Technology Standards
    • Review and analyze system concepts and user requirements that have been approved and entered into a system requirements baseline (functional, allocated, and product).
    • Provide guidance on Failure Investigation Teams and FRACAS item resolution
    • Brief up to the General officer level
    • Provide effective communication across IPTs and to external stakeholders on technical and programmatic aspects

    Required Skills Required Experience

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

     One of the following combinations of education/experience:

    • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in relevant degree field, from a university with at least one ABET accredited program, and 3-10 years of relevant experience

    Active SECRET clearance within 6 years is required.

    Strong background in mechanism design and evaluation

    Strong background in Finite Element Analysis

    Strong background in Fracture mechanics

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Knowledge and experience in providing engineering support in an AF program office highly desired
    • Previous experience in working with nuclear weapons highly desired
    • Top Secret Clearance
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering

    • Ability to maintain workloads that may include travel to a variety of states for days or weeks, and daily timeframes that could exceed the typical 8-hour shift.
