Must have a current letter of registration as aCounselor Intern from the Texas Department of State Health Services(DSHS),ORCurrent valid certification as Certified CriminalJustice Professional Applicant Status (CCJP-A) as approved by theTexas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals. Selectedapplicants must obtain the Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor(LCDC) license or the Certified Criminal Justice Professional(CCJP) certification within five (5) years from the date of theirregistration as a Counselor Intern or CCJP-A. Must sign aCredential Contingency Agreement that will remain in effect onlyuntil the initially established expiration date. Failure to complywith this contingency statement will result in separation fromemployment. Credential Contingency Agreements will not be extendedor renewed as a result of an employee’s separation from employmentor acceptance of another position. Performs moderately complexsubstance abuse counseling work within Substance Abuse FelonyPunishment facility (SAFPF)/In-Prison Therapeutic Community (IPTC)programs. Work involves planning,coordinating, and implementing substance abuse counselingactivities; and coordinating with other departments to ensure themaximum utilization of resources available for chemical dependencytreatment and rehabilitation in compliance with Management &Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice(TDCJ) directives.Post Hire Requirementsinclude:Must successfully complete annual in-servicetraining requirements to include physical agility testing and passan annual background check, which must be approved byTDCJ. EssentialFunctions: Providessubstance abuse counseling and recovery skills training;participates in offender orientation, educational and individualand process counseling groups in compliance with program standards,guidelines, policies, and procedures. Maintain a Therapeutic Community (TC) within thefacility working closely with correctional staff to create a livingenvironment that is peer driven. Interviews, screens, and evaluates offenders forpotential program participation. Provides acomprehensive evaluation from a battery of valid measurement toolsto assess the recovery needs and the re-offense risk ofoffenders. Participates in the IndividualTreatment Plan based on the severity and characteristics of theoffender as determined by the comprehensive assessment, review ofcollateral information, and the Clinicalinterview. Maintains offender records and otherrecords regarding services provided to include workload statistics;and compiles data and submits reports and related documentation asappropriate. Implements follow-up and after careplans for offenders that participate in the program prior to theirrelease; and disseminates information on community resources foroffender placement in follow-uptreatment. At the conclusion of the program, anIndividual Progress Summary will be developed for each offender oncaseload to reflect the evaluation results together with commentsabout the offender’s level of participation and quality ofcompletion in the SAFPF/IPTCprograms. Submit copy of the Individual ProgressSummary to the Parole Division to be included in the Parole CaseSummary. Coordinate or participate in transitionmeetings. Promote the development of positivesocial skills through modeling appropriate behaviors andintervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provideregular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures andintervention techniques.
