  • Responsibilities

    A CAD Drafter is responsible for assisting sales, engineering and field personnel in creating presentation drawings, design drawings, construction drawings and project documents. These drawings represent the concepts and details of several disciplines including HVAC, plumbing, mechanical piping and electrical controls. A CAD Drafter works from sketches, models, and verbal information from multiple sources to determine the most appropriate drawings and information to complete the projects. A drafter should understand sheet metal and piping routing and construction. Assignments regularly require mathematical calculations, research and clear communication. A CAD Drafter is expected to resolve most problems with moderate supervision. 

    BRIEF TASK DESCRIPTION

    CAD Drafter is accountable for the following:

    • Learn, practice and use vocabularies related to HVAC, plumbing and fitting.
    • Be aware of current building codes and current industry practices.
    • Be proficient with computer and software used.
    • Understand and utilize MacDonald-Millers duct and pipe routing practices.
    • Understand and follow MacDonald-Millers drawing standards.
    • Be familiar with the operation and depiction of all types of mechanical systems.
    • Constantly learn and improve CAD skills.
    • Create and modify Design Coordination drawings of HVAC, plumbing and fitting.
    • Participate in BIM and Design Coordination meetings.
    • Establish and maintain a solid rapport with co-workers and other departments.
    • Perform additional tasks and assigned.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    • Above average skills in AutoCAD, Fabrication CADmep (CADDuct) and Navisworks.
    • Two-year degree in CAD or Drafting studies or equivalent related work experience.
    • Self-sufficient in Microsoft Office products.
    • Fluent in advanced 3D geometry creation and manipulation.
    • Previous HVAC or Plumbing field experience preferred.
    • Working knowledge of HVAC and Plumbing fabrication and installation practices preferred.
    • Working understanding of construction practices preferred.
    • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently or in a team.
    • Self-motivated and intellectually curious.
    • Ability to adapt to flexible responsibilities.
    • Ability to set and meet goals and deadlines.
    • History of good employment attendance.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The candidate must possess and be adaptable to the following physical abilities and working conditions:

    • Coordinate the movement of your eyes, hands or fingers.
    • Ability to see and hear well (either naturally or with correction; no color blindness).
    • Speak clearly.
    • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
    • Constant computer screen use.
    • Must be capable of working extended hour days when job/business needs demand.
