  • Responsibilities

    Project Manager interns will be given the opportunity to work closely with a team of other project managers who are responsible for the planning, procurement, and execution of mechanical contracts. At Mac-Donald Miller, interns will help promote the effectiveness of a project management team by analyzing engineering drawings, organizing equipment, minimizing litigation risk, working with vendors, coordinating with subcontractors, tracking quality control, and more. Work place responsibilities will include doing daily tasks at a construction site and doing computer work at an office location close to the assigned jobsite. All and all, the intern will gain experience with organization, communication, and analysis skills, while helping the successful implementation of multi-million dollar mechanical systems.

     Daily Activities:

    • Communicating with subcontractors, government agencies, and other Mac-Donald Miller employers to obtain permits, gather equipment information, generate submittals, organize operation and maintenance manuals, and recognize engineering drawing errors.   

      • Doing daily activities on the construction site including pipe installation tracking, quality control assurance, information gathering, and litigation risk minimization.
      • Creation of submittals, excel data matrices, equipment requisition logs, permit applications, construction schedules, and equipment reviews.
      • Working with digital engineering drawings to scrutinize for errors, ensure proper use of mechanical systems, create data matrices, provide accurate information for estimation purposes, and evaluate safety concerns.
    • Other activities include updating engineering drawings, tracking purchase orders, assisting other project managers, organizing equipment inventory, and attending meetings.

    • INSTALLATION TRACKING FOR PROGRESS METRICS COMPARED TO CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATE

      • Highlight materials install on drawings and compare % installed with hours reported on foreman’s dailies
    • ORGANIZATION & MANAGEMENT OF DOCUMENT CONTROL THROUGH CHANGES IN SCOPE

      • Hundreds of O&M’s with equipment changes throughout project
      • Submittal Operation/Maintenance manual review for design conformance
    • REVIEW AND QUALITY CONTROL OF ENGINEERING DRAWINGS FOR CONSTRUCTABILITY

      • Verify no duplication or absence of equipment schedule vs. floor plan drawings
    • QUANTITY TAKE OFF FOR ESTIMATE OF MECHANICAL COMPONENTS

      • Whole foods fixture and equipment counts to verify estimate was all-inclusive
    • REVIEWING CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE FOR MANPOWER OPTIMIZATION AND LEVELING

      • Convert GC’s line by line schedule to break out our company’s scope into a visual schedule (with Excel) to observe activity timing. 
      • Try to shift activities that are stacked so that manpower is at a consistent level instead of having spikes and valleys
    • BUILDING MECHANICAL CONTROLS PARTS REVIEW

      • Review components in all phases – design, placing order, inventory once received, then installed
