    ROLE OVERVIEW:

    The Mechanical Estimator reports to Maria Boyer/ VP of Estimating and Purchasing on a collaborative team working on a variety of projects and initiatives to support the growing business. MMFS is looking for an experienced Estimator to join our high-performing Estimating team. The successful candidate will be creative, analytically inquisitive and collaborative within a team environment with proven experience in producing detailed mechanical estimates.

    The Estimating team fills the unique and critical role within the company of establishing mechanical design and construction estimates for each of the firm's diversified Business Unit pursuits in securing contracts to sustain the company as a profitable enterprise.

    • Professionally communicates and documents the estimate scope, details, approach, and identifies the unique risks / opportunities.

    • Positively contributes to the team while collaborating in the approach and deliverables with respective MMFS team members and customers.

    KEY ROLE ACTIVITIES:

    I. ESTIMATING PROCESS

    • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of the Company's estimating system, processes and approach.
    • Demonstrates the skill set needed to successfully estimate diversified project types and delivery methods inclusive of plan/spec, design assist and design build.
    • Assesses project RFP documents, specifications, design drawings, pre-bid sessions, etc. to determine scope of work, required content and structure of the estimate with defined deliverables.
    • Develop complete, accurate and timely detailed estimates representing a projects mechanical system costs, associated general conditions with required overhead and profit.
    • Proficient in utilizing MMFS software programs and databases to establish a projects total costs and sell.
    • Perform quantitative take-off of HVAC and plumbing systems for plan/spec and design build projects
    • Evaluate and apply labor productivity factors, establish general conditions and determine site logistic approaches to integrate into the overall cost basis for each unique project estimate.
    • Coordinate quote requirements with manufactures, suppliers and subcontractors for quality assurance and specification compliance.
    • Calculate system sizing of ductwork, piping and plumbing as needed to provide a complete layout for estimating purposes when the documents are not complete.
    • Analyze the contract terms and project specifications to determine the best approach to structure the estimate details to support the identified unique project requirements and costs.
    • Skilled in creating conceptual budgets for mechanical and plumbing systems from system narratives and/or system sketches.
    • Maintains and reviews cost analysis data for each project completed.

    II. TEAM / COLLABORATION

    • Excellent communicator who positively contributes to a team while collaborating in the approach and deliverables to respective MMFS team members and customers.
    • Mentor, train and assist in the development of team members.
    • Participate in meetings with MMFS customers to present and validate estimates.
    • Proactively provides input and generates idea's in improving departmental processes and procedures.
    • Provide timely constructive feedback to direct supervisor regarding project bid status, risks and concerns.
    • Review and assess production feedback to incorporate into MMFS estimating approach.
    • Support all team members in achieving the performance goals and commitments of the department.
    • Performs job walks at key milestones to gain perspective, confirm estimate approach & build rapport with operations.
    • Collaborate with other departments to identify inefficiencies and close operational gaps.
    • Effectively collaborates and builds relationships with cross functional teams, suppliers and customers.
    • Ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
    • Maintain a high level of professionalism in all internal and external interactions while representing MMFS.
    • Accepts a level of responsibility for her/his professionalism and accuracy.
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
    • Understand, accept and support MacDonald-Miller's Operating Guidelines, Operational Beliefs and Customer Commitment.

    III. TOOLS / SOFTWARE / TECHNICAL PROGRAMS

    • Proficient in utilizing all internal programs, forms and processes within the department.
    • Proficient with Autodesk ESTmep+, including database maintenance, report generation, table labor and pricing updates.
    • Proficient knowledge and skills in establishing, maintaining and updating all labor and material data tables.
    • Proficient knowledge and skills in utilizing complex spreadsheet tools for estimating use.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in mechanical estimating, preferably in a mid to large size organization.
    • B.A or B.S Degree required in relevant field of study preferred. (Engineering, Construction Management, Business or equivalent years of industry experience)
    • Experience in a variety of HVAC and plumbing system designs.
    • Specific knowledge and experience with Estimating Software systems is required. Specific experience w/Autodesk Software is a plus.
    • Ability to read architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical plans, P&ID's and working knowledge of a variety of HVAC / Plumbing systems in commercial projects.
    • Above average skills in Microsoft Office products (especially Excel) and computer trends/technology.
    • Exhibit excellent organizational and analytical skills.
    • Possess strong verbal, written, analytical, persuasion, interpersonal and presentation skills.
    • Ability to handle several projects / priorities with competing deadlines.
    • Self-motivated, with a sense of urgency in completing assignments.
    • Must have strong time management skills and consistently meet deadlines.
    • Ability to work independently or in a team atmosphere.
    • Possess qualities of an innovative thinker.
    • Actively participate in the MacDonald-Miller sponsored education and training program.
    • History of good employment attendance.
    • Valid license and clean driving record required.
