At Mad Science of Hampton Roads we are having a BLAST! We pay you to have fun! Build and fly rockets, demonstrate lasers, explore the states of matter using dry ice, and help children create slime and other polymers. You will inspire the next generation of scientists through our innovative activities that show kids what science is really all about. As a Mad Scientist you will lead students through an inquiry-based discovery method involving instructor demonstrations, hands-on activities and amazing take-home projects that will illustrate how science affects the world around us. Mad Science is the world's leading provider of fun science programs for elementary-aged children.
We are currently looking for energetic individuals to join our growing team to conduct exciting science programs during after-school hours.
Part-time positions are available for candidates who:
Have experience working with GROUPS of children ages 4-12 (not just babysitting)
Have at least 3 weekday afternoons available - between the hours of 2 - 5pm.
One afternoon must be Friday for weekly equipment exchange meetings
Minimum of 2 years of college completed. Degrees and/or graduate degrees a plus.
Have a fun & outgoing personality
Own or have access to a reliable car
Background checks are required
Position Description
As an Afterschool Mad Science Instructor, you will be running one of our Mad Science Clubs at schools in your area. Each session is an hour long and will require extra time for set up before and clean up after. As our clubs happen all at the same time, you will be visiting up to four schools in a week. Our Mad Science Club programs typically last for 6 weeks and repeat twice a semester keeping you busy all year. Each week, you will teach a different science lesson. We offer video, written, and in-person training. We are primarly looking for Afterschool instructors at this time. As you progress, you can be considered for our other programs including in-class workshops and summer camps.
