Job Summary

At Mad Science we are having a blast. Build and fly rockets, demonstrate lasers, explore the states of matter using dry ice, and help children create slime and other polymers. You will inspire the next generation of scientists through our innovative activities that show kids what science is really all about.

As a Mad Scientist you will lead students through an inquiry-based discovery method involving instructor demonstrations, hands-on activities and amazing take-home projects that will illustrate how science affects the world around us. Mad Science is the world's leading provider of science programs for elementary-aged children.

We are currently looking for energetic individuals to join our growing team to conduct hands-on science programs during after-school hours beginning in January and February. You do NOT need to be a certified teacher, nor do you need to be a science major. For those with some theatrical/performance experience or expertise, there is the possibility to take on additional work as a stage show, birthday party and other event performer.

Responsibilities:

Facilitating a one-hour after-school science enrichment program using a pre-set curriculum.

Each session is a high-energy, part entertainment, part education, hands-on class that meets for one-hour each week for 8-10 weeks.

Teaching young children the art of science.

Qualifications:

Some experience working with groups of elementary age (4-12) children (such as enrichment instructor, volunteer or camp counselor).

Must be available at least two weekdays M-Th after 2 pm and be willing to travel (paid) to multiple nearby schools/locations.

Must have a reliable car

All employees will be subject to a criminal background checks(required)

Additional availability early afternoon Friday for weekly equipment exchange meetings

Some college experience preferred. Degrees and/or graduate degrees a plus.

Have an engaging & outgoing personality

Note: Full-time teachers and substitutes typically can not get to our after-school programs in time as you must be on location just before the elementary school day ends. Unless you are teaching in a school where you can leave by 2:30 or can devote the same 3 days each week to Mad Science exclusively (including Friday early afternoon) we are unable to consider you for a Mad Science after-school position.

We train you in the curriculum, and provide all materials. Mad Science classes follow the school calendar and are presented throughout the school year. Mad Science events happen year round and we also conduct week-long summer programs at many locations all summer. This is part time and rewarding work if it fits with your schedule and lifestyle.
