    We are currently hiring an Operations Coordinator to help manage the equipment and materials used in our educational-entertainment programs. This position is currently targeted at 30 hours per week.

    Job Summary

    At Mad Science we are having a blast. We inspire the next generation of scientists through our innovative activities that show elementary-aged kids what science is really all about. Our Mad Scientists lead students through an inquiry-based discovery method involving instructor demonstrations, hands-on activities and amazing take-home projects that illustrate how science affects the world around us. Our programs range from invention and discovery to chemistry, physical science, LEGO, robotics and space exploration, and are delivered as after-school programs, summer programs, stage shows, discovery centers, on-location workshops and all-occasion parties. We are currently looking for an energetic, highly detailed and organized individual for our Springfield, MA location to coordinate and maintain equipment and materials for our field-based programs throughout Western/Central Massachusetts and Northern CT. You do NOT need to be a certified teacher, nor do you need to be a science major. For those with some theatrical/performance experience or expertise, this position is most similar to a combination of stage and props management for multiple events. There is also the possibility to take on additional work as an instructor, stage show, birthday party and other event instructor-performer.

    Responsibilities:Provides assistance in managing the equipment and organizational needs for children’s science enrichment programs. Position is targeted at 30 hours per week but may be more or fewer hours at times depending on peak periods of activity.

    Specific Duties:

    Ensure instruction modules (“kits”) and related equipment are properly prepared for programs

    Track inventory and replenish consumables

    Help keep equipment areas well-organized and accessible

    Help arrange and attend meetings with instructors for equipment review and exchange

    Communicate frequently with program managers and instructors to anticipate and meet needs for upcoming events

    Assist with ordering of supplies

    Help keep equipment in working order and repair/replace equipment as needed

    Other operations based assistance as required and directed.

    Required Skills

    Ability to focus on specific tasks, but also able to multi-task and shift direction often during a workday

    Well organized and detail-oriented with a low tolerance for error

    Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines

    Ability to take direction as well as initiative

    Some mechanical and repair abilities

    Familiarity with computers and office programs such as Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, e-mail programs and contact managers.

    Good phone manner

    Ability to function effectively both alone and in a team-based environment

    Dependable transportation and a clean driving record

    Able to pass a criminal background check for a children-related business

    Ability to get along well with co-workers and exercise emotional maturity.

    Helpful Experience and Abilities (not required, but a plus)

    · Inventory management, scheduling and/or logistics experience

    · Education/Teaching background

    · Chemistry or other technical/scientific background

    · “Handy-person” aptitude· Theater tech experience (stage or props management)· Some college experience preferredMust be vaccinated against COVID-19 and be willing to follow any safety guidelines in place at our facility, including any mask mandate at the discretion of management and/or in accordance with local requirements.
