  • Responsibilities

    Madison District Public Schools is hiring a SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER for grades 1-5 located at the elementary campus. Must have SSW License.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's degree with eligibility for temporary or full approval as School Social Worker in Michigan (pending one year of satisfactory work performance) with experience serving students with a variety of disabilities.

      

    PREFERRED

    • Excellent communication skills 
    • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with a focus on student social-emotional learning  
    • Strong interpersonal skills. 
    • Effective practices for working with students of all ability levels
    • Understanding of systems of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
    • Experience facilitating the IEP process
    • Knowledge and use of Positive Behavioral Supports
    • Trained in, or willing to be trained in non-violent crisis intervention

    RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES 

    • Provide an educational program that meets the educational needs of each student in the teacher's area of responsibility
    • Provide instruction consistent with District and school expectations and which meets the educational needs of all students assigned to the teacher
    • Communicate with students, parents, administrators and other staff members in a manner which is consistent with District and school expectations
    • The ability to independently and accurately implement the requirements of IDEA and Michigan's Special Education Rules, including the MET/IEPT process, timelines, and eligibility criteria, as well as the requirements of Section 504
    • Skill in assessment and the ability to use this skill to participate in differential diagnosis of disabilities, as well as solid clinical skills which include the ability to provide personalized interventions, based on sound clinical judgment, in individual and group situations
    • Skill in a variety of flexible behavior management strategies appropriate for use with students with a variety of disabilities
    • Provide leadership in functional behavioral assessment and the development of individual behavior support plans
    • Effective collaboration with parents, educational staff and community agencies to coordinate programs and services for students and families
    • Strong diagnostic skills and experience participating in the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team process
    • Conduct home visits as appropriate
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records
    • Function as a collaborative and contributing team member within the Madison District Auxiliary staff
    • Participate in professional development opportunities and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning.
    • Communicate student progress and development with parents and staff in a timely fashion
    • Create a caring and nurturing learning environment that allows for emotional and social growth for all learners
    • Establishes a cooperative relationship with all students  
    • Takes direction from the building and District administration 
    • Contributes and participates in efforts related to school and district goals 
    • Maintains regular and consistent attendance 
    • Other duties as assigned by the administration
