Job Description
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Dance Specialist at our following clubhouses:
- Pinkerton Clubhouse - Harlem, NY
- Navy Yard Clubhouse - Brooklyn, NY
- Thomas S. Murphy Clubhouse - Brooklyn, NY
THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION WORKING 20-25 HOURS A WEEK MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
The selected candidate will be responsible for leading dance classes and teaching various dancing techniques to club members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop engaging programming ending with a culminating experience
- Teaching of Performing Arts and Drama, including planning and preparing lessons; setting and marking of work; and assessing, recording and reporting on development, progress and attainment.
- Explain and demonstrate artistic techniques in dance, theatre, photography, videography, music, etc.
- Prepare club members for performances in dance, music, and/or theatre.
- Organize club members’ performances and direct their rehearsals.
- Gather and purchase supplies for classes within an agreed upon budget
- Other duties as required
REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
- HS Diploma or GED.
- Experience teaching in dance and classroom experience teaching dance appreciation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, ages 6-18 as well as a colleagues in a courteous and professional manner
- Highly motivated and dedicated to the organizational mission
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven track record of engaging youth in a responsible and mature manner
- As a condition of employment, employees must have proof that they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
