    Job Description

    We are looking for someone to perform contract project work with a specialization in aerospace or mechanical engineering to perform tasks in design, manufacturing and testing. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

    • Design of Aerospace Vehicles, Flight Critical Systems and Structures, fabrication of composites structures and tooling, utilization of rapid prototyping methods
    • Perform a variety of simulations such as CFD, FEM, Thermodynamics, computational structural dynamics(CSD) 
    • Support research efforts in conceptual-level aerodynamic design, analysis, and optimization, including multi-disciplinary and multi-fidelity design, using scripting platforms like Matlab/Simulink and Python
    • Investigate evolving technologies, materials and manufacturing processes in support of ongoing and future programs and conceive novel aircraft systems and configurations leveraging developments in these areas
    • Support requirements definition, conceptual/preliminary layout, and detailed analysis for air vehicle systems
    • Design, build, and test prototype systems and structures
    • Manage the design of hardware, the acquisition of required materials, vendor relations, and the instruction of assembly and testing
    • Anticipate needs, identify problems, think creatively, and rapidly produce reliable and cost-effective solutions
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

     

    • Bachelor’s, Master's or Ph.D  in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree with 2+ years of applicable experience
    • Ability to perform trade studies from "first principles" and basic engineering fundamentals to drive a design from inception forward
    • Demonstrated ability to rapidly prototype and vet design concepts
    • Candidate must be hands-on and motivated
    • Strong knowledge of manufacturing and prototyping techniques
    • Proficient in using programming environments, and spreadsheets to develop projects and sub-systems from concept to reality
    • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA, NX, etc.) is required
    • Knowledge of and experience in CFD, FEM, Thermodynamics, computational structural dynamics(CSD) 
    • Experience with Open VSP will be prefered
    • Excellent writing and presentation skills
    • Ability to think creatively and independently about how to turn vague inputs into executable objectives

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

    • Experience with multidisciplinary optimization and vehicle sizing
    • Experience with first principles aerodynamics for design-based analysis
    • Experience with standard CAD packages (e.g. Solidworks or Catia)
    • Familiarity with a range of aerodynamic, structural, vibratory and propulsive analysis tools, at several levels of fidelity
    • Experience in validation of analysis results against other sources, such as flight test Physical Requirements
    • Experience in CFD, FEM, Thermodynamics, aeroelastics, computational structural dynamics (CSD)
