    Job Description

    We are looking for someone to perform contract project work with a specialization in electromechanics and electromagnetic system design and manufacturing.  

    RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Design, build, test, and rebuild as necessary components for motor, controller and Power Control system development
    • Use in-house and commercial design software to perform lumped parameter calculations, as well as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) as necessary
    • Interact closely with other design functions including aerodynamics, mechanics, design / drafting, and controls
    • Coordinate the electromagnetic design with associated power electronics and regulators
    • Perform electromagnetic design analyses and calculations as required
    • Lead new materials selection and development efforts to provide state-of-the-art technological advantages
    • Prepare and present analysis results to large groups of people
    • Review design results of the team for completeness and accuracy
    • Develop and implement standard design practices from lessons learned
    • Interpret and clarify industry technical expectations
    • Work with the Engineering Team to meet internal unit costs and develop cost targets
    • Coordinate the technical design with a multidisciplinary team in the execution of assigned projects, including Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations and Product Integration
    • Write technical proposals and present technical information to investors, partners and customers alike
    • Provide direct support to manufacturing and assist in process development and control, improvement efforts, failure analysis, and problem solving
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s, Master's or Ph.D  in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related degree with 3+ years of applicable experience
    • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of electromagnetic principles and analyses, and in particular the magnetic structure and relationships of electrical machines
    • Demonstrate ability to rapidly prototype and vet electromechanical design concepts
    • Strong knowledge of manufacturing and prototyping techniques
    • Strong writing and presentation skills
    • Ability to think creatively and independently about how to turn vague inputs into executable criterion
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
    • Strong software skills with proficiency in MATLAB and/or other analysis packages such as ANSYS or COMSOL
    • Strong background in permanent magnets, magnetic material properties as well as Halbach array design and assembly

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

    • Experience in product design / analysis or product development leadership
    • Experience with Frameless Motor design / selection, and BLDC and FOC / VF control
    • Experience in LSM or PM-BLDC machine design
    • Strong software skills with proficiency in ANSYS, FEMM, SPICE and/or other FEA analysis packages
    • Experience in numerical analysis tools and optimization methods
    • Experience with PWA/PWB and subsystem design techniques for signal integrity and EMC Circuit design and simulation tool experience

    BONUS EXPERIENCE

    • Background in the aerospace, or automotive industries
    • Knowledge of UL/ETL/IEC standards
    • Knowledge of active and passive magnetic levitation systems and methods
    • Leadership role in development of electromechanical machine
