Child Care Teacher Job Description: Duties and Qualifications

A Child Care Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, educational environment for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. The main duties include providing infants and children interactive and enriching experiences which include basic fundamentals, like numbers, color and shapes, social skills, nurturing social emotional development and keeping the classroom clean and safe. Teachers will be trained to implement Frogstreet curriculum with fidelity for all children in their care.

Teacher Duties and Responsibilities

1. Complete mandatory training provided prior to beginning in the classroom

2. Implement Frogstreet curriculum while meeting the interests and

    learning styles of children

3. Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and

    parents

4. Manage classroom activities including lessons, play, breaks and

    meals

5. Track childrens’ progress and report to parents

6. Maintain a clean and tidy classroom

7.  Provide supervision for children at all times

8. Prepares food and snacks for children and organizes meal time.

9. Helps children maintain good hygiene and changes the diapers

           of infants and toddlers.

8. Relate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience Recognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children, their families, and their cultures

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•   Knowledgeable and inclusive of cultural diversity.

•   Possess the ability to keep children motivated to participate in

   learning opportunities.

•   Demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills as

    well as the ability to manage time and multi-task effectively.

•   Possess the ability to make sound judgments as well as strong

    decision making skills.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1-2 years early childhood development experience in a professional setting preferred

*Background check and TB clearance required

Work Environment

Spends most of the day moving around the room interacting with and caring for children.

Has to lift and carry children, move tables and chairs, bend and pick up toys, reach high shelves and sit on the floor to play games throughout the day.

Experiences a high level of noise at times during the day.

Spends part of the day outside watching children play when the weather is good. Deals with minor injuries or other accidents that may occur with young children.

Washes hands frequently throughout the day, especially after each diaper change, after helping each child in the bathroom and before serving lunch or snacks.
