  • Responsibilities

    For over 100 years, Maguire has been an industry leader in the fabrication, construction, and maintenance of water storage tanks and elevated water towers. The Purchasing Agent will work in the tank division to purchase production materials, maintain supplier relationships, communicate regularly with team members to accommodate changes, and optimize inventory levels. This is a key role in ensuring materials are available for manufacturing operations ensuring on-time delivery to our job-sites.

    Essential Functions:

    • Purchase materials to support manufacturing needs.
    • Monitor and maintain physical inventory to meet desired safety levels.
    • Maintain system inventory to align with physical inventory.
    • Determine and utilize appropriate suppliers to balance cost, quality, and delivery needs.
    • Negotiate with vendors to maintain favorable pricing.
    • Ensure inventory is received, issued, and appropriately costed to projects.
    • Lead the outsourcing process of manufactured parts and assemblies.
    • Manage MRO inventory.
    • Lead physical inventory and cycle count activities.
    • Maintain documentation relating to the processes or key indicators for assigned departments.
    • Be willing to work as a team with other office staff and shop floor employees. Cover responsibilities during teammates time off.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives by attending tier meetings and participating on problem solving teams.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Essential Qualifications:

    • Degree in Supply Chain or Materials Management or equivalent or 3 years of experience in a related field.
    • Ability to problem solve, think analytically, and move between detail-orientated/big picture tasks.
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Proficient in the use of ERP systems.
    • Strong attention to detail.

    Work Environment:

    • Majority of the time is spent in an office environment outside of the fabrication shop.
    • Frequently required to sit, squat, talk and hear.
    • Constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
    • Adhere to Maguire Iron’s PPE Policy and Safety Programs.
    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities. Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Able to work at a sustained pace and produce quality work.

    The ideal candidate must be able to obtain working knowledge of all job specific operating procedures, be extremely quality conscious and detail oriented, accept responsibility and account for own actions, can work independently with minimal supervision, be able to build solid relationships with internal and external customers, be dependable and trustworthy, be self-motivated, and have basic computer skills.
