Role Overview The Senior IDMS Database Administrator (DBA) provides comprehensive database management for a high-profile, enterprise-class application development project. Working within a highly collaborative, fast-paced team environment, the DBA will support critical mainframe application and infrastructure databases. This role requires a self-motivated technical leader capable of handling ambiguity, driving database strategy, and seamlessly bridging technical execution with overarching project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Operations • Provide hands-on IDMS monitoring and application support in alignment with best practices. • Collaborate with systems support and extended database administration teams to maintain test, staging, and production databases. • Develop and document standard operating procedures for database management. • Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation to ensure continuous system availability.
Performance Optimization • Enable and tune IDMS features to optimize database performance within a z/OS mainframe environment. • Generate and analyze performance data using IDMS Perfmon. • Recommend actionable strategies and implement solutions to achieve optimal system performance.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration • Advise product and application development teams on best approaches for data model extensions and structural changes. • Coordinate with external entities, including vendors, cross-functional agencies, and project management stakeholders. • Support project planning initiatives, including technical task effort estimation and resource allocation.
Required Qualifications • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical, business, or related field (or equivalent work experience). • 15+ years of experience with IDMS deployment and operations in a z/OS environment on a z-series IBM mainframe. • 15+ years of experience with the deployment of IDMS security, including security of ADS/O application structures, IDD, and relational database objects. • 15+ years of experience with application programming for the IDMS database (native and SQL) using COBOL and ADS/O programming languages. • 12+ years of experience with IBM High Level Assembler on the z/OS operating system. • 10+ years of experience with the IDMS SQL option, including creating/supporting relational model databases and implementing SQL access to native IDMS. • 10+ years of experience utilizing IDMS Perfmon for online monitoring and report generation.
Preferred Qualifications • Master’s degree in a related field. • Hands-on knowledge of RACF security and application change management principles. • Secondary knowledge of MS SQL Server. • Previous experience in the healthcare sector, public sector, or managing PHI/PII data. • Experience with Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) or Medicaid operations. • Familiarity with surrounding technical environments and tools, such as VB.Net, C#.Net, Java, CICS, TSO, JCL, and RPG.
