Maintenance & Adventure Operations Manager
Location: Spearfish Canyon Resorts (Includes Spearfish Canyon Lodge, Latchstring Restaurant, and Spearfish Canyon Adventures)
Position Summary
The Maintenance & Adventure Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all property maintenance operations and leading the daily execution of Spearfish Canyon Adventures (UTV, Slingshot, and snowmobile rentals).
This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong accountability, organization, and follow-through. The ideal candidate will ensure that all facilities, equipment, and rental units are properly maintained, secured, and operating efficiently while leading a team that executes consistently at a high level.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Operations (Primary Responsibility)
Oversee all maintenance across the resort, including lodge, restaurant, rental center, and surrounding property
Manage and prioritize daily, weekly, and long-term maintenance projects
Ensure preventative maintenance programs are in place and consistently followed
Maintain organization, cleanliness, and security of maintenance shops, tools, and equipment
Ensure all equipment, tools, and assets are properly tracked, stored, and locked
Coordinate and perform repairs related to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, general carpentry, and mechanical systems
Work with outside vendors and contractors when necessary
Adventure Operations (Sports Center)
Oversee daily operations of Spearfish Canyon Adventures
Ensure all rental units (UTVs, Slingshots, snowmobiles) are maintained, clean, and guest-ready
Manage scheduling, staffing, and daily workflow of the adventure team
Ensure proper check-in/check-out procedures and safety protocols are followed
Maintain accurate tracking of equipment usage, maintenance needs, and inventory
Ensure a high level of guest experience and professionalism
Team Leadership & Accountability
Lead, train, and hold accountable the maintenance and adventure staff
Establish clear expectations and ensure tasks are completed correctly and on time
Train staff on proper procedures, safety standards, and equipment use
Address performance issues directly and consistently
Create a culture of ownership, responsibility, and attention to detail
Operational Standards & Oversight
Ensure all work is completed with attention to quality and detail
Identify issues proactively rather than reactively
Maintain strong communication with ownership and department leaders
Ensure compliance with safety standards and operational procedures
Assist in planning for seasonal operations (summer rentals, winter snowmobile season)
Qualifications
Previous experience in property maintenance, mechanical work, or facilities management
Experience leading a team and managing daily operations
Strong mechanical aptitude (small engines, equipment, or vehicle maintenance preferred)
Highly organized with strong follow-through and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and execute without constant supervision
Comfortable working both in the field and in a leadership role
Ability to obtain Polaris Silver Certification through Polaris University via online courses.
Work Environment & Expectations
Full-time, year-round position
Requires hands-on work in all weather conditions
Seasonal fluctuations in workload (high demand during peak tourism seasons)
Must be available for weekends, holidays, and occasional after-hours issues
Fast-paced environment requiring adaptability and problem-solving
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a dependable, self-motivated leader who takes ownership of their responsibilities and follows through. This role is not suited for someone who needs constant direction—success in this position requires initiative, accountability, and the ability to execute consistently.
Pay DOE. EOE. $50,000-$65,000 total compensation package.
