Maintenance Technician – Mechanical Systems (Healthcare Facility)
Position Summary
Lean Synergy Solutions is in search for a skilled Maintenance Technician to provide preventative maintenance and repair services for critical mechanical systems at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center. This role is responsible for maintaining centrifugal pumps, exhaust systems, and tube & bundle heat exchangers in a live healthcare environment, ensuring reliability, safety, and compliance with VA standards while minimizing disruption to patient care and hospital operations.

Key Responsibilities
Initial Equipment Inventory (One-Time):
- Conduct a complete inventory of centrifugal pumps, heat exchangers, and exhaust systems
- Document equipment location, type, size, supported area, and condition
- Record findings in Excel and submit to the Program Office Point of Contact
Preventative Maintenance – Exhaust Fans (Annual):
- Clean fans and housings
- Lubricate bearings and motors
- Inspect belts, sheaves, rotation, and operating amps
- Identify and report deficiencies
Preventative Maintenance – Pumps (Monthly):
- Verify motor amps and system operation
- Inspect for leaks and wear
- Grease bearings and seals
- Tighten electrical connections and verify shaft alignment
- Perform vibration analysis (annually)
- Document and report deficiencies
Preventative Maintenance – Heat Exchangers (Monthly):
- Inspect internally and externally for leaks, corrosion, fouling, and connection integrity
- Monitor pressure drop and temperatures
- Verify accuracy of gauges and thermometers
- Inspect tubes, valves, vents, and relief devices
- Clean, flush, and service heat transfer areas using approved chemicals
- Perform housekeeping and chemical cleanup
- Record all results and deficiencies
Repair Services:
- Identify repair needs during PM visits or emergency calls
- Provide written repair or replacement estimates
- Perform approved repairs, including emergency services between PM cycles
- Utilize provided tools, parts, materials, and documentation
Reporting & Coordination:
- Submit detailed service reports after each visit, including labor hours, equipment details, services performed, parts used, and test results
- Coordinate inspection schedules to minimize hospital disruption
- Maintain hazardous material inventories and MSDS documentation
- Report and manage spills in accordance with regulatory requirements
Qualifications
Required:
- 3–5 years of experience maintaining and repairing mechanical systems such as centrifugal pumps, exhaust fans, and heat exchangers
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, including vibration analysis and electrical diagnostics
- Experience performing work in regulated environments (healthcare or government facilities preferred)
- Proficiency with tools, diagnostic equipment, and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to meet VA background and access requirements
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Physically capable of lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces
Preferred:
- Technical certification in HVAC, mechanical systems, or related field
- Familiarity with healthcare compliance standards and safety codes
- Experience working under NAICS 561210 or PSC J041 environments
Location & Compensation
- Location: Washington, DC (VA Medical Center)
- Compensation: $25-37 p/hr ($52,000 - $76,000 annually)
