  • Responsibilities

    The Overnight Baby Nurse is a current New York State Licensed registered nurse who provides direct, in-home care during a contracted amount of time (typically 1-3 weeks), between the hours of 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (timing varies, but this is an average), to newborns, as well as, provides education and support to new parents. Per diem employment (must be able to commit to a 10-15 day contract).

    Employing their nursing experience and clinical knowledge of maternal health and normal infant growth and development, the Overnight Baby Nurse's goal is to provide exemplary emotional and physical support to both baby and parents. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, infant feeding, breastfeeding support, newborn hygiene, swaddling/comforting and parent education (see more on role responsibilities below). After the contracted time, the Overnight Baby Nurse should always leave each family they have supported feeling cared for and empowered to continue care for their newborn as new parents.

    In addition to the above, the Overnight Baby Nurse must have excellent communication skills and be able to support each MDE family with a strong empathetic approach.

    Required Criteria:

    • Per diem employment (must be able to commit to a 10-15 day contract)
    • Live within a reasonable, commutable distance to NYC for all roles
    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
    • Current New York State License as a Registered Nurse (or willingness to obtain)
    • CPR/First Aid certification
    • Up to date with COVID Vaccinations
    • Experience providing care for newborns (nursing or childcare)
    • Experience and/or knowledge about the postpartum period (postpartum healing + recovery, perinatal mood disorders, lactation support, etc.)
    • Excellent communication skills

    Preferred Criteria:

    • At least one (1) year registered nursing experience in pediatric, neonatal and/or maternal health care settings
    • Certification in lactation counseling

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Provide basic newborn care including feeding, bathing, dressing, diapering and swaddling
    • Assist with basic postpartum recovery support
    • Educate parents about newborn care, infant feeding, safe sleep practices, infant wearing and infant routines
    • Provide guidance and education on breastfeeding, breast milk pumping, breast milk storage and/or formula preparation as parent(s) desire
    • Responsibilities do NOT include medication administration or other medical care

    Salary and Benefits:

    • This is not a salary position as the position is per diem. Hourly rate begins at $35/hour and increases with experience, qualifications, and/or care of multiples. Hourly rate will be discussed and agreed upon before the signing of each overnight baby nurse contract.
    • There are no insurance benefits as this job is per diem, however, as an MDE Overnight Baby Nurse, you are allowed flexible scheduling and the ability to increase/decrease hours based on personal availability
