The Opportunity This is not a desk-job fundraising role. The Humane Society of Forsyth County (HSFC) is in an exciting place right now. We're growing the programs that save lives, building deeper relationships with our donors, and planning for what’s next. We’re looking for a people person who loves connecting with others, telling impactful stories, and seeing their work turn into real impact. If you care deeply about animals, enjoy being out in the community, and know how to turn genuine conversations into lasting partnerships, this role was made for you.

    Why Join Us

Your work directly saves lives. Every relationship you build helps dogs and cats find safety, medical care, and loving homes.

You will shape what comes next. HSFC is evolving into a stronger, more visible community leader. You will have a real voice in how we grow.

You will grow professionally. HSFC supports creativity, strategic thinking, and professional development for high performers.

Who You Are You are someone people instantly feel comfortable with. You ask great questions, listen closely, and follow through. You care deeply about animals and can articulate why this work matters in a way that inspires action.

    You likely describe yourself as:

    Outgoing, confident, and relationship-driven

A storyteller who can connect mission to impact

Strategic and organized, not just charismatic

Eager to learn and open to feedback and coaching

Comfortable picking up the phone and asking for a meeting

Someone who takes pride in making a great first impression and an even better lasting one

    Key Responsibilities

    Donor Portfolio Management

Manage a portfolio of approximately 80 to 120 individual donors and prospects with capacity to give $2,500 and above

Develop tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for each donor

Build genuine, long-term relationships through tours, meetings, calls, and thoughtful follow-up

Maintain accurate, timely records of all donor interactions in the CRM

    Revenue Generation

Secure major gifts in support of HSFC’s priorities through one-on-one, face-to-face donor visits and solicitations

Partner closely with the CEO on top-tier donor relationships and solicitations

Prepare proposals, impact updates, and customized follow-up materials

Based on strengths, take ownership of either:

    Corporate donations and sponsorships or

HSFC’s legacy and planned giving program

    Pipeline Development

Identify and qualify new major gift prospects through events, referrals, and donor data

Actively manage a healthy pipeline with clear next steps and timelines

Track and report on donor retention, upgrades, and engagement trends year over year

    Collaboration and Strategy

Work alongside the CEO, Development team, and board members to leverage relationships

Support and coach board members in donor engagement when appropriate

Contribute ideas and insight to overall fundraising strategy and planning

    Stewardship and Reporting

Ensure donors feel seen, appreciated, and informed about the impact of their giving

Provide regular reports on portfolio performance, pipeline health, and activity metrics

    Additional Responsibilities

To stay connected to our mission, all non-operations teammates spend regular time alongside our shelter and clinic teams. This keeps our work grounded and strengthens how we share HSFC’s story with donors.

Events are an important donor touchpoint. This role supports events by engaging donors, hosting, and stewarding relationships. On event days, everyone pitches in as needed, but this role is not responsible for event planning logistics.

    Compensation

Competitive base salary based on experience and fit, plus a performance bonus of up to 15%.

Additional performance bonus will be based on:

    Meeting or exceeding development goals

    Pipeline growth and consistent activity

Quality of donor engagement and stewardship

    Qualifications

2+ years of experience in major gifts, relationship-based fundraising, or high-trust sales (we’re open to strong sales professionals who can learn nonprofit fundraising).

Demonstrated success securing gifts of $2,500 and above

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Confidence in donor meetings, tours, and one-on-one conversations

Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple relationships at once

Experience using a CRM or donor management system (HSFC uses GiveSmart)

Deep alignment with HSFC’s mission and values

The Bottom Line This role is for someone who likes being out front building trust, opening doors, and helping people turn what they care about into real action. If you’re energized by connecting with others, motivated by impact, and excited about helping shape what’s next for HSFC, we’d love to meet you.
