Position Summary
The Manager, Database Engineering is responsible for the management and direction of a software development team focused on database platforms. This role requires a thorough understanding of relational database theory and practice, along with in-depth knowledge of data systems and database methodology, design, and modeling. The manager works with business units to create a project roadmap for each product responsibility and oversees the logical and physical aspects of the database and the application data contained within. They are responsible for defining technical standards and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of data. This individual must be analytical and adept at problem solving, strategically designing and implementing production databases while providing support for specific applications.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Works to recruit talented team members in order to support the changing technology needs on their team.
Provides technical consulting/mentoring to peers and projects; sought out as an expert for application development decisions or to solve business issues.
Works with diverse/multiple problems of complex scope where analysis requires in-depth evaluation of various factors.
Uses knowledge of current issues, past trends, and technological information to provide innovative alternatives to complex situations.
Responsible for their products defects, bugs and enhancements in accordance to a defined support SLA
Acts independently and cross teams to achieve the best software applications which enforce best practice business processes.
Responsible for the security posture of their product portfolio and will maintain the software application lifecycle to ensure it never becomes out of support.
Exercises judgment within functional policies and goals.
